kovat Wrote:HI!

the new kernel solved everything. Works perfect.

Which version you mean?

- FireMan - 2010-07-07

I'm not sure, but I guess he is talking about 2.6.32-23, released to Lucid (10.04) a few days ago (I'm guessing, since I'm running Karmic!).

Cheers.

Hi!

i freshed the system today to 2.6.32-24 in Lucid, removed the lirc-source, and nct677 source, reinstalled the diver from the Asrock site.

And everything works again.

- scalpel - 2010-07-07

hmmm... i don't have kernel upgrade now to 2.6.32-24 in 10.04 upgrade manager. Will wait some time...

Could you please explain how you did it ? I am completely new to linux and I dont know how to update a kernel.

When available, the update manager will show you. But it was available for me, so it should for you too.

Or in terminal

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

That did not work for me. Could you let me know how your /etc/apt/sources.list looks like? I might be missing a source.

Could you outline what steps you did to get the kernal to update? Did you then install the ASRock CIR drivers (10.04)?

This remote issue desperately needs a step-by-step guide to help noobs like myself Huh

Cheers

Yea, someone please do. I did manage to get the kernel upgraded but I think I fubared lirc now, still cant get it to work Sad when I run irw it just dont output anything at all. I know my remote is working (eg not damaged) since I can start my ASRock with it and it even starts my xbox 360 (very annoying).

God this drives me mental every time you update the kernel you get this driver issue. If i used a infrared usb would this allow me to update and not have to worry about breaking the drivers ? And would we have these problems if the asrock was supported by default lirc ?

I agree. A friend did that and is happy. Brought a MCE from Philips and never had another problem.
He only use the internal IR to turn the unit on (the internal sensor will work with any MCE remote), since the ASRock's BIOS doesn't have the option to turn on from USB device.
He is satisfied with the result: the MCE sensor has better reception and doesn't suffer with his TV's remote interference (that was the main reason to change).

Nuvoton sux! Every kernel upgrade is a pain. Imagine how long they will support drivers to future Linux generations (maverick is getting close, lol)

Cheers.

I know mate lol. Well I think I'm gonna get myself one of those recievers then I don't have to worry about doing an aptitude upgrade again Big Grin
