OK.
I download the latest version. I am testing and I'll let you know.

Thank you.

- superyo - 2012-01-15

It's me again.
I just made a lot of test.
I had the same problem with the last beta. Kernel panic or of its cuts and big delays on the image.

So I decided to delete some preference files.
I tried a lot of files. The culprit is: guisettings.xml

Once the file is deleted I restarted XBMC. I remade all my settings. And no problem.

The file must be damaged. Really strange to have such consequences.

Do you know what it is exactly this file?

too bad you deleted it and did not just rename it. now we will never know the differences and what might have been causing the panics.

you 'might' be able to recover this file using TimeMachine if you have that turned on.

I have the file with TimeMachine.
I will send by mail or I put in?

Just a note here. Ever since I moved to the last version Davilla posted, I've had all sorts of weird kernel panics as well. Music is outright broken when I attempt to play something from my music collection, and there have been other strange panics. I'll gladly post a log, but it may be related to the same issue superyo is seeing. Are the changes you made regarding the refresh rates going to be implemented in the next Beta release? I pose the question this way because it appeared the file you sent was a pre-Eden-Beta1 release since it doesn't have the new splash screen when XBMC loads.

kernel panics are a concern. if you look at the log, they are always audio released. not sure what's going on, they come and go for me. right now, they seem to have disappeared.

There will be a crashreport for the kernel panic.

And yes, this change will be in eden unless the kernel panics prove to be an issue. If so, then I'll disable it.

Upgrading to beta2 made things much worse, passthrough over HDMI fails now every single time. Amp is showing that it's getting 2ch stereo inputted.

"Fixes" are to either to turn off refresh rate switching, or to go to the video OSD during playback, switch to opt/coax and then back to HDMI, that makes audio to work.

These happened very rarely in beta1, and sometimes switching the default audio output from hdmi to default device would work for a while, but after a while it had to switched back to hdmi.

http://pastebin.com/0gRv9Rdx

At first playback attempt there's no audio and i stop the video
At the second time i went to the OSD and switched the output causing the audio to come back

Edit: looks like adding a small pause, even 0.5s helps.. but the amp is still working hard locking on to the signal, even the desktop might flash very briefly.

Just wanted to report that there are no issues on my system either from beta 1 or beta 2. Videos poay flawlessly. My screen doesnt even flicker for a brief second the way i expected it to when switching resolution for example. The video just sarts a second later and same 1 second black acreen when i stop the video, which i think is hardly a high price to pay for such an amazing feature that work flawlessly.

Takes 8 seconds here to switch the refresh rate and start the playback, and this is not counting the initial buffering. The same setup is capable of faster switching, have used Live on it. But as long as it's working reliable, not a big issue.

Seems that even a delay of 0.1 seconds solved my issue.

We can't influence the time needed to switch. Depends heavily on the graphics card and monitor (or internal display)

Hi

It seems that the issue have been relieved for alot of uses, unfortunatly not for me. When I have the "auto refresh rate" ON every movie I try to play (HD and SD) stutters heavily (not the type of stutter you get from having a weak computer). Also there is no sound.

If I swith the "auto refresh rate" to OFF everything plays just fine (with sound ofcourse) (even 1080p) but with the annoyance of been "stuck" on 60Hz.

The wierd thing is that this happened on say 20-30 % of the times I played videos using beta 1. However using beta 2 it happens all the time, and it dosent help to restart the program or the computer.

Off-topic, I still get random start-up crashes using beta 2 (but not as often as beta 1 though).

I'm on a macbook pro early 2011 with geforce 320M and snow lepoard hooked up with hdmi (through a pioneer reciever) to the TV.

If you like, I can try and figure out how to find the debugloggs and send you, also sorry for miss-spelling word here and there.

Regards
Henric

Hersan, what if you manually change the refresh rate to 24fps in Snow Leopard's Display settings?

- Hersan - 2012-01-28

@ tsombrero

Well, switching to 24 Hz manually work. However my TV is capable of 1080p @ 60Hz, what xbmc does is overriding my manual change by choose this (since its better when displaying GUI, menus and stuff) on startup (on its own I might add). Then when playing a HD movies with 24 fps it doesn't switch to 24 hz (since I'm forced to have the "auto refresh rate option" OFF, it stutters like crazy with it on and also without sound).

Looking in the debugloggs these is nothing that sticks out, except a few "Put MSGQ_NOT_INITIALIZED" warnings here and there.

Having it set to OFF, everything works fine (but with the wrong refresh rate of course).

So your workaround is like this, run to the computer, set refresh rate to 24hz manually and then use VLC. This will work, but then I wouldn't be using xbmc at all and this defies the whole point.

As I see it, there two routes,
1) fix the auto refresh rate bug
or
2) have an option that globally forces xbmc to use X hz

With route 2, since I play 99% HD movies with 24fps it will work (I suppose I can live with the slight stutter in menus that come with this workaround option)

OR did I completely misunderstand you?
