I think the best way to learn the xml is to download Empty and use the XBMC skinning manual to learn different controls and stuff until you got the hang of things. Empty is the perfect template skin. It will be a very rewarding and frustrating endeavor for sure.
And dont be afraid to ask lots of questions.

I personally hate xml and I am too stubborn to ask questions, so I never got TOO far (hell I just have a huge psd pack with pretty much all graphics and layout, and a TON of scraped xml's). I really prefer the graphics aspect of skinning!

Just so excited to show this I couldnt help myself. Here is so far what we have for a working home screen. Icons are gonna change slightly now that i have seen them in skin, but they wont be much different.

xbmc can take screenshots of itself if this is what you are asking ?


try printscreen key for linux atleast, else see keymap

print screen on windows copies the screen to the clipboard then paste it into your favourite paint program?
