Plex - taking but giving nothing back - Tainted - 2009-12-23

Sorry if this is not correct thinking but I was wondering since learning about Plex.....

Seems they have taken loads (everything) from XBMC linux to build their from what I saw looks like so far XBMC with MediaStream Aeon skin. So we already had a viable working MAC solution and along comes someone, takes all the hard work, implements some cool functionaility like Spotify but is not giving back anything to XBMC community.

Looks just like loads of other UNIX projects where it gets forked, named differently and some slight difference are added. Pointless if you ask me

I do hope the devs are getting nice fat brown enevelopes of cash otherwise I really dont see the point in letting Plex take all your hard work and not give anything back!!!

That's FLOSS, we take stuff back that we deem fit when the opportunity arises. Otherwise, our panties aren't in a bunch about it. I suggest you don't get yours in one.

Have often thought about this in relation to Boxee. There are a few features of boxee I'd like to see backported into xbmc but I'm not exactly clear how it's licensing works.

Interesting that plex has spotify support, I wonder how they did it.

Most of the Plex "features" are based on their closed-source media server.
