Nice! - Pr.Sinister - 2010-05-27

Just discovered this... Tried the Night skin and saw a view that had logos and
it was picking up the logos i had for some shows!

This is great! I was using logos already but mine were 128x128...

They were remnants from Project Mayhem in 2006 before we started using
posters and even banners for the folder.jpg...

When i switched to banners, i kept all my original logos but never created new
ones so i only have 200 or so... They will now all get replaced with these great
ones.

Great job guys!

I was going through some of them before going to bed and i was wondering if one of the guidelines should be : no tag lines. Only the actual show name.

For example, the one for The Black Donnellys has the words : Family Above All in the logo... should that be cropped out?

Anyway... I totally suck at Photoshop but can someone post a broadview of
what you are doing to create the logos?

Here is what i am assuming :

Total 3 layers
Bottom layer -> no background
Middle layer ->drop shadow
Top layer -> actual logo

Huh

I will try to make some tomorrow night after work...

Ahh Step by Step...such a horrible show and an even more horrible logo. I couldn't find any decent sources so I had to make this ugly beast of a typograph by hand. Thank god I only have to do it once.

To logo artists:

I've found a great site that takes an image / link to an image and tries to determine the font used. It's come in handy at least a couple times so far when I couldn't find a good source and had to recreate the logo myself. The above logo for Worst Week is a prime example. The font is Rockwell Bold for anyone playing at home. Laugh

Can you post a link to the site?

Great work btw, I'm very impressed by the amount you put out! Laugh

Eek Thought I did that! Too many things going on I guess... Here's that link: WhatTheFont!

Thanks mate. Just trying to be productive or something like that...the wife, on the other hand, would disagree. hehe

I google "whatthefont" and click first link...Alot of times it links to a paid font though, this is what I do:

1. Take tv logo and crop or erase out as much background so nearly only the logo is showing, so not to confuse their program...you'll see why.
2. Upload it to the site
3. I will give you a recommendation of 3-6 fonts.
4. Then I click on the clostest one
5. After that it brings up a sample text box and I type in the TV name "Family Matters" or whatever the show is
6. I save the sample image that has my text in it
7. Then I open it in paint and save image as a .png
8. Open in PS and use magic wand selection and remove the background
9. Now from there I have a nice logo which I can manipulate color and sizing

That's exactly how I do it for the fonts I don't have. I have too many fonts to count (torrent files are a great place to find some of those 'commercial' fonts). Instead of saving the image, just drag and drop into PS. It'll save you a step and you won't have to deal with cleaning up afterward. Big Grin

Another tip when dealing with anything from Discovery Channel, docos especially, the font is usually Trajan Pro. With BBC docos from Attenborough, they use Baker Signet for pretty much the whole lot. Both are available for free.

Sucks for me, I tried that and I get that crossed of circle indicating "can't do that"

What version of PS are you using? You can also Right-Click > Copy Image and then Paste it into a blank canvas in PS.
