Game cabinet frontend - N3MIS15 - 2010-10-01

i recently started working on making XBMC into a frontend for an arcade cabinet by using the external player to launch different roms through different emulators. I also wanted to use the cabinet as a music/video jukebox, XBMC seemed to be the perfect candidate.
I was just wondering if anyone had tried this before... I know people run xbmc along side cabinet frontends, but has anyone tried using XBMC itself as 1?

If so i would love to know how it turned out.

Cheers.

Do you want something like this? http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=70115

I haven't used it yet (it's still very edgy), but it looks promissing and it's an active topic on this forum. Maybe you could contribute.

If you are dealing with roms and emulators, I suggest you read up on the ressurection xtras project which contains a lot of boxart, screenshots, metadata etc .

Actually getting box art can be tricky. The way I do it is have XBMC recursively search my directories for box art that matches the good name of the ROM. There are a couple of programs out there that are great for renaming such as (FatMatch) which is also freeware. If you need any help just PM me. Big Grin

Great arcade frontend, works great without much setting up

you can even launch it directly from xbmc

I'll toss in a vote for using Launcher to launch the roms, and yes, definitely look up the RessurectionXtras project. The work that has gone into it is phenomenal and is an must for an launcher front end.
