Thanks for the response. Do you know of any emulators that support a second monitor? I tried cloning the displayand making the tv primary but that really doesn't work well for most other stuff i do. I'm new to emulators and am trying to figure what the optimal route to go is. Thanks so much - joethefox - 2011-03-28 Angelscry Wrote:You already can actually play any kind music using XBMC audio player. Thanks for the response. Would have been nice if everything was automatic - coendeurloo - 2011-03-28 Angelscry Wrote:I always thought that XBMCLive was a XBMC Demo to quickly show the possibilities of XBMC on a computer. I have never use it yet, and my question is : where will be located the applications you want to start using Advanced Launcher : Harddrive? Live CD? USB key? I think the limitations will not come from XBMC or Advanced Launcher but the applications you want to start. Those ones, most of the time, NEED to be installed somewhere. XBMCLive is certainly not used as a quick demo I don't think I'm exaggerating when I'm saying that most people with a dedicated HTPC will use XBMCLive, since they don't need the UI of the underlying OS. In my case, I want a quick way to load XBMC, which is why I installed it on my HTPC. It will boot directly into XBMC and I never 'see' anything from Linux. It is just a minimal linux install with xbmc installed, you just don't have the UI. You can imagine that especially for us, Advanced Launcher comes in handy. There is no official Spotify plugin (yet I hope, I still wonder why no developer creates this), so using advanced launcher to launch the official linux spotify could come in handy. I see you updated the plugin, let me try to create it again and see if it works now! Update: Even though I can now select the Linux platform, it still doesn't work. The screen refreshes for a moment and then I'm back in the launcher select menu. Could someone please check if Spotify works? - Angelscry - 2011-03-28 coendeurloo Wrote:XBMCLive is certainly not used as a quick demo I don't think I'm exaggerating when I'm saying that most people with a dedicated HTPC will use XBMCLive, since they don't need the UI of the underlying OS. Mine is running under ArchLinux, without UI and it directly open with XBMC. XBMCLive is not necessary to do this. Only advantage of XBMCLive is that you can use it on any HTPC or computer without a permanent installation. That's what we call a demo. coendeurloo Wrote:There is no official Spotify plugin (yet I hope, I still wonder why no developer creates this), so using advanced launcher to launch the official linux spotify could come in handy.Spotify works on my Linux system using Advanced Launcher. So, for me, it seems that it is only related to the use of XBMCLIve. On your system, where is installed Spotify? On your HTPC or on your XBMCLive CD or USB Key? Does Spotify is able to be started alone on your system (without using XBMC and/or Advanced Launcher)? XBMC pause & restart - laukarlueng - 2011-03-29 I'm wanting to pause XBMC after I launch mednafen (to keep it from dragging down emulation) and restart XBMC after exiting mednafen. I can do that through the terminal, but I'd like for it to happen automatically. I'm using XBMCLive and I've tried using the below script. I've had no luck with it, so I hoped somebody here could point me in the right direction (I've searched the forum to no avail). Code: #!/bin/sh - coendeurloo - 2011-03-29 Angelscry Wrote:You know, you can install a lot of different minimalist Linux distributions, without any UI on an HTPC. I think you understand the way most people use XBMCLive wrong, even though it is possible to start it from a CD or USB key without a permanent installation and just run it directly from the CD/USB as a demo, most people will choose a permanent installation on their HTPC. It is the easiest way to get the fastest xbmc install on your htpc. Especially if your knowledge surrounding linux isn't great. Spotify is installed in the usr/bin directory. I don't know if it's able to start without advanced launcher as I have a minimal linux install so i don't see the GUI. On top of that, I also have minimal knowledge of linux, so I don't know the right commands to start it, and if I do, will it just popup in front of XBMC, since XBMC is all I ever see? - Angelscry - 2011-03-29 laukarlueng Wrote:I'm wanting to pause XBMC after I launch mednafen (to keep it from dragging down emulation) and restart XBMC after exiting mednafen. For some people XBMCLive is sufficient to read videos or listen musics. But for a use with Advanced Launcher, it is a little bit different. Because Advanced Launcher need to start external applications. Those applications must be previously installed (on USB key or HD). What I mean is these applications must have some drive access (for read/write their configuration files), need sometime, dependencies to been already installed on your XMBCLive system or need a specific UI for display. In this case, it is more complicated to use XBMCLive than the permanent installation. coendeurloo Wrote:Spotify is installed in the usr/bin directory. But if you are not able to start spotify like this, from your XBMCLive session (out of XBMC), advanced launcher will not be able to do it. - laukarlueng - 2011-03-30 Angelscry Wrote:http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=39 It didn't work for me at first, but I discovered that the args in the launcher.xml had -fs 1 in it. After I removed them, leaving them in the .sh file, it worked like a charm! Thanks again! - coendeurloo - 2011-03-30 Angelscry Wrote:Yes, I'm agree with you about that. I tried to start it in putty using /usr/bin/spotify start but it says the following: It's weird because the file is there when I browse to it using winscp: - Angelscry - 2011-03-30 coendeurloo Wrote:Well, that sucks thanks for the answers...Thats the problem with XBMCLive. By default it works well. But since you want to install other applications on your system it's become really complicated if you do not have a really strong package manager on your system that coudl manage dependencies. You message error indicate that spotify is not able to found or access the libXss library. Linux works with application under packages form. Most of the time some packages are dependent from others package. Here is seems that the package containing the libXss library is not installed on your system or the version installed is not the one needed by spotify. You can try to make a : Code: sudo apt-get install libxss1 to install the missing libxss1 library on your system (if apt-get is installed). But it could miss other libraries. I think your problem actually is more related to your use of XBMCLive rather than Advanced Launcher and you may obtain more useful help on the XBMCLive dedicated forum. - coendeurloo - 2011-03-30 Angelscry Wrote:Thats the problem with XBMCLive. I understand, sorry to bother you with this. I've installed the libxss1 package, but now it says: So yeah, that's weird because I can see the Spotify file being there Anyway, thanks for the help, it's best if I continue in the other forum, unless you have any ideas of course. - Grangey. - 2011-04-01 Angelscry, Im sorry if Im being a complete idiot here, but im trying to follow your how to add "lnk" (winodows games) into the file launcher as a seperate directory. So what i have done, it up so it goes programs-advancedlauncher-games-lnks , everything is great and almost there however I fear I may have misread something. (this wiki http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=File_shortcuts) In order to launch the seperate lnks, I read your wiki is that I could add "any executable file" to use the windows start command- so for this example, I used the crysis warhead executable file as the master executable. However now whenever I go to launch any of my lnk files within the program, it just launches crysis warhead. Have a missed something here? How can I select an executable file that will launch the respective lnks, rather than the actual exe itself? Ive search for the answer but cant find it so id be really greatful for your help. Thanks Grangey |
