Angelscry Wrote:It depends which linux distribution you are using. The file mame.ini file could be into $HOME/.mame/ or /etc/sdlmame/mame.ini. What you could do is to copy the /etc/sdlmame/mame.ini into $HOME/.mame/ and then modifiy the $HOME/.mame/mame.ini file.

Thanks for your help mate, i appreciate it. Im running xbmclive, ubuntu 10.4 lucid

Located mame.ini in /etc/mame/mame.ini so edited it to reflect rompaths, i.e.

rompath /media/x\:/ROMS/Mame/Roms/
samplepath /media/x\:/ROMS/Mame/Roms/

Same thing, loaded metal slug up to 100% then returned to xbmc, tried others incase there was an issue with that rom.

copied the mame.ini to /home/xbmc/.mame as well, nothing changed. I see from reading the thread someone else had the exact same issue on xbmclive, i wonder what their solution was.

Any ideas ?

Kinda out of ideas guys. De-installed, removed the repositries, updated and re-installed through the multiverse, now i have sdlmame etc but again exact same issue. Very weird. Really need some help Sad

If you start sdlmame without using XBMC does it work or do you have the same error? Also, your roms path look strange: /media/x\:/ROMS/Mame/Roms/. I maybe wrong, but I'm not sure that Linux is able to understand paths containing \: character into it. For example if create a folder named x:\ then I try to open it using command line
Code:
cd x:\
I'm not able to access it. That could be the source of your problem.

tried both ways, with and without the i.e.

/media/x\:/ROMS/Mame/Roms/
and
/media/x:/ROMS/Mame/Roms/

Running sdlmame from the commandline i get

sdlmame
Quote:init kbd.
Could not initialize SDL Unable to open a console terminal

But thats through ssh.

Running on the box in a dedicated shell gives me

Quote:sdlmame
init kbd.
init mouse failed.
could no initialize SDL Unable to open mouse
And i get the same running with xbmclive and xwindows not running.

As i say sdlmame loads the rom (showing a window and prgress bar) then exits so i know its running. Cant understand it at al.

Does SDL package is installed on your system?

danz0l Wrote:I tried creating a mame.ini in that directory but it didnt seem to make a difference. Metal Slug 5 is loading (its counting up 100%) then quiting.
Metal Slug 5 also needs neogeo.zip BIOS file to start correctly. Does neogeo.zip file is into the MAME roms or bios directory?

Hello Angelscry,

Just so you know, the AEON NOX skin has been updated this week with better ALA support. It looks pretty good.

I have a question. I'm currently adding my Game Gear collection, it is the no intro set. I have my add on settings switched to NOT 'clean item titles' (datas and infos section). I want this so I have the (USA, EU, JAPAN) info in the title. However, when I import the info from game faq, when importing, all my game names are cleaned. So I have multiple games with the same name (as the "USA"."EU" ... tags are removed).
What am I doing wrong? Any idea?

Thank you.

The "clean item titles" option is applied AFTER scrapping the game title. So AFTER that the romfilename have been replaced the scrapped title. This option have been added for scrappers that return titles containing additionnal info (like AllGame and Maws). For GameFAQs, scrapped title do not contain addtionnal info into the title... That's why it does not keep the country info in your case.

Actually, the only way I see to fix it is to manually edit the title after scrapping... but it could be long. Maybe I can try to add into the next version an option to not scrap titles, but only scrap the other information.

Angel, for me that would be a must. I don't know how other people do it. Just scraping for info, but not changing the title would be a very welcome option for me ...
I will play some more with ALA in the days to come, now that my favorite skin AEON NOX supports it. If I find bugs, I'll let you know.

For now, thanks a lot for this fantastic tool, and for the cool thumnail pack for gaming!

Angelscry Wrote:Yes.. 3 minor updates (bug fixing) in the last 3 weeks. I will try to reproduce your error on my system (actually XBMC Dharma version on Linux and XBMC pre-Eden version on Windows 7 do not have this bug). Could you also post your xbmc.log file just after trying to import a thumb or a fanart image? If something gone wrong, the log file must contain an error or a warning message.

I see a number of errors around Advanced Launcher in my xbmc.log. This is for SNES. I have Bubsy: Close Encounters of the Furred Kind and Bubsy II in my games folder. The scrapper detected both games as Bubsy II. I was able to change the info yesterday. In the log, I was trying to change the thumbnail from Bubsy II to Bubsy Close Encounters, but the thumb stays as the Bubsy II cover art. What's weird is when I go to change it, and it shows me what the existing thumb is, it's the correct thumb there....but when I go back to check, it hasn't changed.

I keep the games stored on the local C: drive, not on the network. Check out the log and let me know what you think:

I'm sorry to tell you that, but I'm not able to reproduce your error on my system. I have tried Dharma and pre-Eden version of XBMC on my Windows 7 system and all the import thumbs ans fanarts options are working correctly.

I have take a look at your launcher.xml file, and all seem ok for me.

Your last bug description is clearly what happen when the XBMC cache not properly works (existing thumb is correct, but is not the same that the one displayed). That's typically a cache refreshing problem.

When I look at your xmbc.log file, there is a lot a error and warning messages inside... mostly related to the skin and XBMC. I do not know how those errors could affect the caching process.

One thing you can try is to stop XBMC. Delete the /userdata/guisettings.xml file (make a backup of the file before) then restart XBMC.

I figured it was a caching issue. What I ended up doing was just un-installing XBMC and starting from scratch. After doing that, it is working perfectly.

It's just a PITA to get all the Movies, TV Shows and Games back to the way they were....

Thanks for your help in looking into this....I love Advanced Launcher!

Yes had those, seems however that sdlmame 0.136 has changed bios files for a lot of emu, so the neogeo bios i have doesnt get recognised and i cant seem to find a compatible one. Managed to find some roms that are known working on 0.136 and they run, albeit they are not very good LOL Are there any other neogeo emus on linux ?

Version 0.136 of sdlmame is 2 years old. Actual version of sdlmame is 0.142 and common neogeo bios files work perfectly on it.

ok I updated to 0.142 and still have the same issues with neogeo Sad says the selected game is missing one or more required ROM or CHD images, thats even trying to launch the neogeo.zip you linked me to on that website, same issue with mslug5 Sad I have both neogeo roms and the rom image neogeo.zip in the same direcvtory. No neogeo roms launch.

EDIT. Finally got it working, its still complaining the roms are not the ones expected but its launching mslug, neo bomberman and a few others and playing Smile
