When scraping from .nfo files, does Advanced Launcher use the same format .nfo files as RomCollectionBrowser? I.e, can I use the same .nfo files for both?

Angelscry Wrote:Deleting the launchers.xml file is REALLY the last thing to do. Because this file contain ALL the launchers and games information for Advanced Launcher. If you have effectively delete it... you have lost everything.

If there is no launchers.xml file present, Advanced Launcher must ask you to create a new launcher (stand-alone or file launcher). If it is not the case, the problem must come from elsewhere. Are you sure it was not initially a skin related problem?

My assumption was that renaming deleting launchers.xmlwould force advanced launcher to have to re-add every game which might at least bring me back to a normal kind of screen so I got a backup of the file (ofc!) and then deleted it, but to no avail. I get the same empty screen whether or not I have launchers.xml or not and I can't do anything on that screen, f.ex add a launcher. All I can do is leave it and go back to Home Menu.

You suggest skin related problem. The problem seems to persist even when I change skin, for example to Transparency which is supposed to be Advanced Launcher compatible.

edit :

Whatever caused the problem, I fixed it with reinstalling and backuping the old launchers.xml so this mystery is over for me.

I'm trying to add Fusion through Advanced Launcher so I can play my Mega Drive/Genesis games - here are the steps I'm going through:

Advanced Launcher -> File launcher -> Launcher app: C:\Program Files (x86)\Fusion\Fusion.exe
Files path - ROM folder on my NAS
File extensions - gen
Application arguments - "%rom%"
Thumbnails path - not set
Fan art path - not set

All the settings for fusion.ini are set as listed in the Advanced Launcher wiki. But when I click on the newly created item, nothing happens. The same happens when trying to set up MAME:

Advanced Launcher -> File launcher -> Launcher app: C:\Program Files\MAME\
Files path - ROM folder on my NAS
File extensions - zip
Application arguments - -inipath "C:\Program Files\mame" "%rom%"
Thumbnails path - not set
Fan art path - not set

What am I doing wrong?

as per the wiki guide

i follow the instruction but it wont let me go futher when i browse for the
games i just click the the folder tree as far as i can go and there is no
roms there in xbmc ( pc my computer i can see that they are in there)

mari bros.nes
just wont show up in adv launcher
to be able to add and scrap them.

so im stuck i cant go futher

i have show all file in xbmc setting checked
so i really dont know what else to do

cheers
When you create a files launcher, you are asked to select the roms folder, not the roms themselves. Under XBMC, when you are asked to select a rom folder, you did not see any files. So it is normal.

When the launcher is created, you have them to add the items (roms) manually or automatically. For the automatic options, Advanced Launcher will automatically scan the folder for files with the same extension you have selected during the launcher creation. For the manual option, you have to select the roms, one by one. If you do not see them, it could be possible that you have not well defined the files extension during the launcher creation.

If you still have problem, please post here the content of your launchers.xml file using pastebin website.

Banditt Wrote:Not sure where to post this as it may be a general XBMC issue, but I think this may be the best place to start.

I have "show plot for unwatched items" = OFF which I really want to keep because I hate reading something before I watch the movie/show that ruins it.

When I am in Advanced Launcher I want the descriptions of the games (I use it for emulators) but I get the "Hidden to Prevent Spoilers"

Within music it still shows the information for the artist. Is there something I can do within Programs or Advanced Launcher to show the description of the game/emulator? I can't find a way to mark it as 'Watched'

Thank you.
I am using Windows, Dharma, Aeon Nox skin, InfoWall View.

(Pictures are from my test machine - just loaded a couple things to show what I mean)

I cannot really help you on this. It is a skin issue. If the Aeon Nox option which hide the items descriptions for movies and TV shows also hide the description for program add-ons, the only way to fix this is to modify the skin.

In the same way, I think that there is no "Watched" option for program add-ons into skins. I'm not sure also that XBMC have it. Advanced Launcher do not support this option also. It maybe be a good idea to add it, for example if you use Advanced Launcher to read comics or ebooks. Will be a manual option, because "Watched" for games, websites or video streams, do not make really sense. But here again, if XBMC of the skin do not provide this kind option for program add-ons it will not be possible for Advanced Launcher to support it.

I did not make the test yet, but normally yes. If you plan to try it, make a backup of your .nfo files before.

If someone have a bunch of RCB .nfo files, maybe it could post them here, so I maybe able to make futhers test with them, and maybe fix potential errors and bugs.

Ok... Great if restoring the launchers.xml file fix the problem. This kind of display error could occurs for example, if you have created a favourite of a launcher or an items, what you have deleted this launcher or this items, and then you recall the favourite. When it happen, Advanced Launcher is asked to open a launcher or a file that did not exist any more, and so display and empty folder. If you are able to reproduce this error, please tell me. So I will maybe be able to found a way to avoid and fix it.Nod

To access the ROM folder of your NAS do you use a Samba path or a mounted network drive path? If you use the Samba path it will not work, because most a the emulators (like Fusion or Mame) do not support Samba paths into their command line. You must mount your NAS as network drive into Windows to assign it a drive letter if you want to start a ROM with a local emulator.

Thanks for your reply! I was using a Samba path so I tried mapping the path to a network drive which didn't work, and then I tried copying a couple of the ROMs to a folder on the local C drive and pointing the new item to that local folder. Even that hasn't worked - still nothing happens when I try to launch an item. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Advanced Launcher which hasn't made a difference. Any ideas!? I'm running XBMC 10.1 on Windows 7 x64 if that helps.

Unfortunately, I hit a bit of trouble in my tests and get a script failed when I try to import from the RCB nfo files. I'll have another go and post my log file tomorrow if I still can't get it working.

Ok... I will check this during the next days. Malte already send me a RCB .nfo file template but I surely need to do some more test and try to improve the compatibility. Oo

It it also not works for lacal file, there may be something wrong into your file launcher setup. Please post here the content of your launchers.xml file (using pastebin website) and I will surely be able to help you.

Here is set of 10 nfo files (SNES games) freshly created from RCB.

You will notice an error in the Prince of Persia file because I had some trouble with exporting "Broderbund" with the correct character set. So if this does not show up correctly it is not a bug in ALA.

Could you please upload some files from ALA? I could also test to import the files on my side. Would be nice to have this working together.

Thank you very much. I will post some on your thread, as soon as will be back to home. Thank you for your cooperation Nod

Ok, I just have seen that your .nfo files can have several <genre> tags. It could explain why Tomkun has encounter some script errors.

Also, Malte, why your empty tags are like this :
Code:
<originalTitle />
and not like this :
Code:
<originalTitle></originalTitle>
What is the advantage? Oo
