Normally the bug is now fixed by version 0.8.6.

Hey Angel, question. Is both the auto-find ROM and the autoscrape working now?

Yes... normally. Laugh

I think I figured out how to reproduce on my system. Even on latest 0.8.6

If there are no new roms in the folder, it successfully goes through and says ) items imported. No issues.

However, if there is a new rom or more, then it gives the addon.py error. I tried this in multiple different foldders, same situation.

However, if the new rom is manually added, then the next time you run the scan, it will correctly identify no new roms.

Hey so I started the auto search for my n64romset, it begins scraping for tagging metadata (from gamefaqs) then mysteriously stops and no roms get placed without any error or anything. Also for existing games, how do I activate the autoscraping? thank you for your excellent work, I would donate if there was a button to do so =)

Scratch That! - cancerboyuofa - 2010-12-21

Scratch my whole post!

The bug does appear to be fixed in 0.8.6!

Scraper is working great now, importing art and info for all games. The repo is not showing the update, so I went and manually overwrote the files and it works great! Thanks for your hard work.

Hey, how do you get it to autoscrape for games already in your library?

also, anyone have any ideas on where to pull scrape data for mame games, with their wierd naming conventions- im at a loss Big Grin I tried mameworld but they have limited resources, also does anyone know of a way to launch fba xxx roms directly from within the advanced launcher'? thanks again ^^

im trying to run MAME under the xbmc live 10 but just after the emu loads the rom it closes. i can see the load couter with bigger roms but thats all. im using the latest version from here http://sdlmame.wallyweek.org/repository/

Odd issue. - invalidation - 2010-12-21

I'm having an issue with the autoscraping (v: 0.8.6). If I individually scrape for thumb/fanart manually, it downloads, and displays fine. If I autoscrape, it displays no thumb/fanart for the newly found files.

From what I can determine -- the autoscrape is naming the thumbs/fanart with the rom file extension (i.e. for SNES, it's naming the art "blahblahwhatever.SMC"). It's saving the art with the rom extension, and putting this as the thumb/fanart filename in the launchers.xml file.

XBMC is not showing the art when named as such.

If I change the extension to ".jpg" on the files, and in the launchers.xml, XBMC will display them.

Also, manually scraping causes the file and launchers.xml entry to have the ".jpg" extension, and will again show in XBMC.

By default the thumbs and fanarts autoscraping are desactivated. You can activate them by going to the add-on settings menu (screen 1) then activate each scrapers (Datas,Thumbs and Fanarts) with the "automatic import during scan" option (screen 2).

When I update my repo with the new version of the Advanced Launcher, XBMC do not report automatically the update. Instead of overwrite manually the files you can do 2 things :
  • Go on on the Add-on Menus, select my repo (screen 1) and then select the Force Refresh option (screen 2) to force repo update.
  • An other alternative is to download the last version from the Goggle Code page, then go into XBMC and select the Install From Zip option (into Add-on menu, screen 3) then select the download file.

You just have to go into the Advanced Launcher settings menu, then activate the 3 kind of launchers (Datas, Thumbs and Fanarts). If you want the scan for MAME games I suggest you to select the MAMEWord source for the 3 scrapers.

One thing with the MAME emulators is that you have to indicate manually into their default ini file the path where are located the roms. Also, some roms needs some bios roms. The bios roms have to be cpied into the roms directory.

You have to activate the automatic import during scan for thumbs and fanarts into the add-on settings menu if you want to automatically import thumbs and fanarts.

No. When you create a launcher, rom files extensions are only used to fix which files will be taken into account during the scan. It have nothing to do with the thumbs and fanarts image files.

When performing rom scanning, the Advanced Launcher will automatically search for thumbs and fanarts images into thier respective directories indicated during the launcher creation.
  • If the thumbs and fanarts directories was the same, the launcher will automatically search for image named romfilename_thumb and romfilename_fanart (with any image extension : .jpg, .bmp, .png, .gif, etc... )
  • If the thumbs and fanarts directories was different, the launcher will automatically search for image named romfilename (with any image extension : .jpg, .bmp, .png, .gif, etc... ) into the 2 different directories.

When scraping thumb and fanart images, the images files will be always saved with the .jpg extension into their respective directories and with the right name (as describer before).

Batch Madness - Rob Loach - 2010-12-21

ghostelement Wrote:Feature Request - Create ability to add launcher sections / categories. For instance, I would like to make a section for all my PC game launchers to go in, rather than have them all mixed in with my emulator launchers.

Here's an example of the layout that I want:

Advanced launcher\PC games\Borderlands

You can simulate this effect by using bash/batch files. Not sure how it would look on Linux, but on Windows, you would take these steps:

  1. Create a launcher.bat file with "START %1" in it
  2. Make a new directory for all your PC Games batch files
  3. For each game you have, create another .bat file containing START "C:\\pathtomygame.exe"
  4. In ALA, add an emulator/rom launcher that runs launcher.bat, with the rom path to where all your .bat files are.

Again, I haven't tested this myself, but the idea is there. Also not sure what it would look like in bash/Linux.
