Angelscry-any idea of what is causing me all these problems from the log I attached =(
?

- lindsayrg1 - 2010-12-27

Can anyway help me with the following problem?

I don't think it is specific to this addon but when using this addon or just the normal launcher addon by leo, I can't seem to be able to see my C drive or any other drives. When entering the addon and choosing to launch standalone app/exe, it only gives me the option of lauching .exe files from my CD drive as well as fat 32 drives. I assume it is picking up fat32 drives as it detected a 16gb USB device and not my external NTSF drives with all my media.

It's really weird because I can view my C drive which has xbmc centre installed and my other external drives by going through video and importing my different media.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW I am using xbmc 10.0 and I am currently using aeon mq2 skin.

This has been covered in previous posts. This only happens in windows. The best way around this is to eject the disc, close and reopen xbmc and try again. I believe its a problem with xbmc and not ALA.

Wow! Thanks htpc guy.

Can't believe that actually worked! Is this going to be fixed sometime soon or is the error that causes this still unknown? Also, do you know if this will continue happening everytime I plug in a usb or insert a disc? Finally you mention it's a windows issue...do you recommend formatting the system and installing some form of Linux?

As far as I know it just effects windows. You can install ubuntu and see how you like it. I use ubuntu and really like it but keep in mind its not for the faint of heart. You will need to learn a whole new OS and fixing issues generally calls for a lot of googling. Also I wouldn't recommend it if you are not running a Nvidia GPU.

Angelscry Wrote:Thank you. I have looked at it but not able to found errors related to the Advanced Launcher

That's not really a bug. The Advanced Launcher use, applications filename and and applications name to make difference between each launcher. If you add a launcher with the exact filename and name than another launcher Advanced Launcher will consider it as a duplicate and then will not add it.

Ok I will try to add this feature. It will be in the Advanced Launcher settings. The user will have the possibility to select path for all thumbs and fanarts launchers. Files will be named like this applicationname.jpg or applicationname_thumb.jpg or applicationname_fanart.jpg depending the cases. I just how to think what will be those default folders for the first Advanced Launcher start. I will try to add this for the next release.

I think you should make it so that if can't find the default thumbnail name it starts on an specified folder when looking for thumbs, that way you won't need to browse to say D:\launchers\thumbs or whatever it will always start there, then the user will have to select the appropiate file.

htpc guy Wrote:I can't believe how well this launcher is coming along. It really makes game library possible. Keeping with the idea of making a games library, would it be possible to add in media flags. It could incorporate logos for Developer, Genre, Number of Players, ESRB Rating, etc... All of that info is readily available on Gamefaqs (save for the number of players). The number of players could be a dialog that pops up during the scraping process, asking for the number of players for a specific game.
Yes it will be possible to add media flags to games, but it supposed a lot of work beside :
  1. add media flag corresponding tag to each games
  2. modify each data scraper to get the media flag info
  3. modify each skin or modded skin to display the info (not my ressort except for Alaska.Revisited MOD skin).
I could add his to the todo list... but it will be not the actual priority.

That would be great. If this is a feature that you plan on supporting then maybe we should begin to generate some images for flags. Is there anyone else that would be interested in helping out?
  • We would need a central location to host files
  • volunteers to help create flags
  • lists of flags that need to be generated (developer/studio flags would take the most work)

Is anyone else interested in this? Maybe I should make a separate post?

Just look at your log file, but not really have idea. First You have those kind of errors :
Code:
...
19:55:23 T:3456 M:1756762112   ERROR: CPicture::CacheImage Unable to create new image special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/1/15dd22eb.jpg from image C:\Games\Emulation\Fanart\1941j.jpg
19:55:23 T:6648 M:1756098560   ERROR: CPicture::CacheImage Unable to create new image special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/9/95a5f350.jpg from image C:\Games\Emulation\Fanart\1942abl.jpg
19:55:23 T:3456 M:1756114944   ERROR: CPicture::CacheImage Unable to create new image special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/4/40bcdfa5.jpg from image C:\Games\Emulation\Fanart\1942b.jpg
19:55:24 T:1920 M:1756303360   ERROR: CPicture::CacheImage Unable to create new image special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/9/9bfac9e9.jpg from image C:\Games\Emulation\Fanart\1942w.jpg
...
This mean that XBMC is not able to save the downloaded thumb images into XBMC cache directory. Have you try to give to administrator rights to the windows user to start XBMC? Maybe it will fix the problem to access the cached directory.

For the other errors it seems that your launchers.xml file is damaged and the launcher is not able to get and save the data into the launchers.xml file correctly. Delete your launchers.xml file and start from scrap.

Are you using the last version of Advanced Launcher?

I've added a game and it doesn't have thumb nor name, it's empty :Huh?

It is not a Windows issue, it as a XBMC windows version issue. You do not need to install linux on your computer. This is the 4 known methods to bypass this bug with the windows version of XBMC :

1. give administrator rights to XBMC,
2. remove any CD or external drives from your system,
3. manually add sources into XBMC,
4. modify manually the launcher code.

Personally I have use the first method and it solve me the error, even after returning XBMC to standard user right.

Your game is a stand alone launcher or a rom working with an emulator? Do have activated the thumbs and fanarts automatic scrapers?

- htpc guy - 2010-12-27

Angelscry Wrote:Your game is a stand alone launcher or a rom working with an emulator? Do have activated the thumbs and fanarts automatic scrapers?

I've noticed that ALA has issues scraping for fanart/thumbs if the ROM name does not match the exact title of the game. Example, I had a rom for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that was named TMNT.nes. After I changed the name the scrapers picked it up fine.

This would not be the fault of ALA though. Just double check the file names and change them if they are incorrect. (Don't change Mame rom filenames though or else Mame will not work).

- Ryoga79 - 2010-12-27

I have two quick (and sort of related) questions, that i'm not sure are already implemented. I tried searching the thread, but since "PC" isn't a valid search term, when i searched for "PC Games" i just got every mention of "games". Tongue

What i'd like to do is create a subcategory for PC games that scrapes automatically. Since i have games installed in various places across various distros (steam, gfw live, GOG, etc), i found the easiest way to consolidate launching them was to create a single directory with batch files that point to the game executables. That way, all the "launchers" are in one place. Given that there's no "emulator" to launch the batchfiles, is there a way i can create a subcategory for PC games? Right now the way they show up in my list is as individual, single-executable launchers, so i have a list of 25 or so PC games, with "NES" in the middle of it that leads to a submenu for NES games. Is there a way i can group the PC games like the NES games are?

In addition to that, is there a way i can create a "dummy" emulator for the PC games, to recognize *.BAT as "roms"? That way i can set it up to auto-scrape my batchfiles directory to catch any new PC games that i add.

Thanks in advance, and i apologize if this has already been covered and i missed it in the thread.

No... Advanced Launcher add-on is only a launcher not a roms of file manager. So Advanced Launcher will NEVER rename any rom files. If you need an add-on to manage your roms use Rom Collection Browser add-on.
