nickvda Wrote:Hey guys, I am also having the same problem that Jolid was having on page 2.

I am running windows 7, 64 bit, with xbmc RC1 (with the Night skin, if that matters).

I added my main emulator folder to the file browser, but all I can still select when I try to add an Emulator, is my Optical drive (D).

Any suggestion on a fix? Beside changing drive letters?
You will found 4 possible solutions to fix this here.

Just thought you guys might be able to use these game studio icons in some way. I got permission from the creators to post here.

Thank you. Yes, we might be able to use them. Not directly into the Advanced launcher add-on, but by using a skin that will support studio display. I have to update my skin for Alaska.Revisited. Maybe I will found a way to add them.

Game System Thumbnails - Rob Loach - 2010-11-28

Jurai Wrote:anyone recommend an alternate program for downloading the rom boxarts / etc while waiting for advanced launcher to support dling images for all games in a dir?
EmuMovies is a good one. Particularly their Download Service Utility.

Do you know if there's a license associated with these? We couldn't pack them with the XBMC Advanced Launcher, could we? Would be nice if it picked the thumbnail/fanart image for the emulator for you depending on what system you picked it as. Either that or referenced a remote thumbnail for the system...

Go on #XBMC some time! I'm idling on there all the time. Would love to ping some ideas off you.

I don't think licensing for those is any kind of an issue.

MAME Frontend vs XBMC Advanced Launcher - Rob Loach - 2010-11-28

Adding MAME support to the XBMC Advanced Launcher would be pretty nice, but the MAME Frontend plugin, available from the XBMC Addons repository is actually really nice and quite feature rich. It allows filtering by year, bios, manufacturer, names, and searching. Can even do things like having it hide clones and games that are not working.

.... I suggest you check it out.

Hey Rob loach,

i tried to check it out. but it give me errors on linux.

Feature Audit - Rob Loach - 2010-11-29

I've gone through some of the more popular emulator launcher frontends that don't the require use of a mouse (HyperSpin, GameEx and Maximus Arcade), and it seems Advanced Launcher is getting pretty good as a launcher. What it's missing from the dedicated launchers are:
  • Sort and filtering of games (by genre, year, publisher, etc)
  • Searching
  • Tracks what games you're playing (last played, most played, haven't played yet, etc)
  • Quitting the emulator/game from the controller
  • Play a random game
  • MAME support
This is not meant as a feature request list for XBMC Advanced Launcher, but just as a comparison to some of the more mature launchers out there.

You might want to shoot them an error report on that one. Hmmm, maybe on the mailing list?

its only designed to work on Winblows. As of this moment there isn't a MAME frontend that works on Linux (afaik)

A couple of things:

Playstation is spelled wrong in the game platform list.

Also, there is an odd bug that makes some games disappear from view if their names only differ on the last character. When adding Mortal Kombat, MK 2 and MK III, the games show up just fine. However, the sequels disappear if I change the name of Mortal Kombat 2 to Mortal Kombat II, for the sake of consistency. I have my Final Fantasy VII ISO-files named 'Final Fantasy VII cd1', 'Final Fantasy VII cd2' and 'Final Fantasy VII cd3', and these three discs are stacked so there is only a single entry in the rom list. In other words, game entries seem to stack when game names only differ in the last characters.

Of course, having game sequels disappear is something that should be fixed, but having said that, I also think that the way that my Final Fantasy VII discs stack looks nice in the ROM list. Therefore I would like to suggest that game files that end with a 'cd#' / 'disc#' suffix is stacked, and when you select it a context menu-like box pops up, and you can specify which of the (in this case three) files you want to launch. Does this make any sense? Tongue

Also, I have been getting this error when trying to download thumbs for a few games.

Quitting from an emulator using a controller - crispy86 - 2010-11-29

They're all good suggestions and I can help you with the one about quitting from the controller when you've finished playing an emulator.

The best way of doing this (in Windows) is from within the emulator GUI. This is going to be a bit different for each emulator but as an example, you can achieve this in zsnes by doing the following:

click 'misc' from the top right of the zsnes window > choose 'misc keys' from the menu > click on the box next to 'exit' and press the key on the controller which you would like to use to quit zsnes.

Hope that solves your problem and let me know if you need any more help with emulators

tried out that emumovies app, seemed good but I had trouble getting the launcher plugin to pick up the boxart even after converting to jpg. Wound up just writing a gamefaqs scraper in php, got the job done

I do not think I will add a specific scraper for arcade games. Allgame.com and Gamefaqs.com already do a great job with them :

I will take a look at it when I will stating to work of the MAME part of the launcher. Thank you for the information.
