Linux: Can XBMC work without CD/DVD drive - raposinho - 2010-12-06 Hi, My linux system has no CD/DVD drive. It is a laptop without a drive. Works when external drive is plugged in but this is not practical. Is there a solution for this? I am thinking on going to a ION platform with linux and without CD/DVD and would love to have XBMC there also. Thanks - htpc guy - 2010-12-06 You only need an optical drive if you want to play dvd discs. Otherwise you can have the OS/live image installed to the hard drive and run from that. It is best to pull your media from a server on the network (wired connection is best). You can install linux via a usb thumb drive as well so you don't even need the optical drive for the install. - rikardo1979 - 2010-12-07 yes, u don't need the optical drive have a look here http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ can't be more easier :-) and faster ![]() - Mike8913 - 2010-12-07 just a heads up.....I had a very difficult time installing RC1/RC2 without my optical drive. I eventually gave up and installed B4 and then upgraded with update/install xbmc. That may have been unique to my hardware but I figure I might as well share the info. |
