As of this moment it is safe to upgrade iOS on the ATV2. You can get an untethered jailbreak and everything should set back up just fine. XBMC doesn't really care what version of iOS you use, so nothing should change there. If you need to update for Netflix then go head. Might want to back up your userdata folder via SSH/SFTP so you don't have to start from scratch, though.

Hi

Any solution to the problem "Error scanning media, would you like to continue scanning?" when updating library?

Thanks in advance

Where is the user data folder that I would need to backup? This would be very helpful as I'm doing this the hard way over and over again...Big Grin

Yes. A new build done yesterday in the unofficial semi-nightly thread. Just follow the instructions in the first post. Honestly, it's just as stable as the "official" builds.

The library scan is still going slow, but at least it works now.

Nice!

Thank you very much for the info

var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC/

There you will see the folder called "userdata". It should contain all of your unique settings, It's also possible to copy this file to and from a desktop XBMC install (just use a nightly build on the desktop, even for the "official" dev build, since it's still pre-release code).

However, go ahead and just grab the whole XBMC folder that contains userdata. This will also grab your addons folder as well so you don't have to redownload all your add-ons and skins.

According to this post you should do this while logged in as the user "mobile" so the file access permissions are already set correctly. Password is "alpine" by default, even if you changed the password for "root".

hint for those with sound problem - thecrazy - 2011-07-23

Just a little hint for those having issues since upgrading to ios 4.3.

If your having all sorts of garbage noise instead of the proper soundtrack with HDMI, DTS and/or AC3, etc... enabled in XBMC, go back to the ATV's setup menu and change the audio to 16 bit (or whatever makes your receiver work).

This fixed everything on my Pioneer VSX 920 receiver. Rofl

Sadly, that doesn't fix the fact my Sony Bravia won't decode the AC3 Stream from the ATV2 even though it's fine from the PS3 and XBox360....

ho uhm

There's a FAQ for that.

The fix to change to 16 bit audio... and to turn off the generating of thumbnails are both mentioned in the FAQ:

Hi all,

this is just some weird behavior with the fanart image that is happening to me.

I have installed XBMC official for iOS on my ATV2.

The problem is that when viewing TV Shows, in Library mode, when you are on the TV Show list or inside a season, the tv fanart is displayed on the background. If you don't do anything for about 5 or 10 minutes, the fanart fades out and the background for Videos is displayed and then, after 5 or 10 seconds, the TV Show fanart is displayed again correctly.

Anyone else having this little issue?

- chibwack - 2011-08-04

Hey all, not sure where to post this and didn't want to clutter up the main forum with another post, but I'm running 4.3 on my ATV2, latest official build, and my Harmony 650 the skip buttons are backwards - The skip-backwards button skips to the next chapter, and vice versa. Should be an easy fix, I'm planning on looking into keymapping the remote tonight but still thought it was worth mentioning.

Cheers and some issues - bodziowolf - 2011-08-12

Thanks for a lot of good work although I'd like to point some issues I haven't noticed in your first post.
All things listed below work fine on Windows and Linux versions of XBMC and fail on iPad (iOS 4.3.3 8J3) and appleTV 2 (4.2.2 2203).

- I can not play udp:// video streams (although I tested it only from plugin)
SD streams are MPEG2
HD streams are MPEG4

Have you encountered similar problems?

Maybe this info will help in resolving the diffuse problem:
Diffuse works on plain color images (ex. white pixel stretched) but fails at more complex images.

- me3head - 2011-08-18

I had problems with SMB on nightlies and -9, so I restored (4.2.2) and reinstalled -7. I seem to be able to play SD files fine, but HD crashes XBMC back to aTV menu. Log:

Any suggestions?
