Hi,

From a noise level perspective, is there any difference between
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121397
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121448

Are you using the ASUS GT430 with the fan? How noisy is it?

Also, I am currently using Darhma on Linux with the MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127454 Out of curiosity, is there a big difference between the Zotac GT210 (recommended here) and the MSI N210-MD512H?

Currently, should I see a difference in Darhma between using the GT430 or the MSI N210-MD512H card (for 2D only)? I don't plan on watching anything in 3D, but I would like to have native HD-bitstreaming once it is supported in a future version of XBMC.

ASUS GT430 with Active cooling is reviewed as a none-noisy GPU card,,
whats noisy for you, might be quiet for me,,,
if your afraid of noise, you go fanless,,,

you wont see performance difference between the two GT210's your talking about....

HD-bitstreaming is a windows thing i'd say,,,, as it works.....
Under Linux, its not %100 there yet,,,,

so, i say use/buy a GT210

if you are planning to playback dts-hd ma and truehd, i'm recomending gt430 over gt210- EVGA nVidia GeForce GT430.

here is more info on it- GeForce GT 210 vs GeForce GT 430

Going to be build a new media centre soon and was wondering what a good case would be?

I want something like http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1080.html so it will look in place under the TV. But I am also going to be using it as a gaming PC, so it's going to have a GTX560 (or two) in there as well.

So I was wondering what a good case would be to fit all of that in there and still look in place under the TV?

Would the Zacate-E350 (2x1.6Ghz) + HD6310 build be able to handle 720P xvid, which I'm guessing wouldn't be able to utilise GPU?

If so I think I found my first custom build. Smile

the e350 can playback bd in full 1080p with dts-hd/truehd fine!

Thanks. I'm coming from an ATV2 which can handle x264 fine on its GPU but the CPU has to do the xvids which, well, it can't really if they are above SD.

Time to order these come payday then Smile Thanks

One more question - my television refuses to pass through DTS and DD bitstreams from the hdmi to my amp via optical. Will this setup also allow me to go straight into my amp via coax or optical digital directly from the mobo?

- eskro - 2011-09-06

if mobo has optical then yes

My upcoming build for a friend:

Motherboard, CPU, GPU: GIGABYTE GA-E350N-USB3
RAM: Kingston HyperX KHX1333C7D3K2/4GX
OS/App HDD: OCZ Technology OCZSSD2-2AGTE60G
Storage HDD: SAMSUNG HD103SJ
Case: Silverstone ML03B
Power Supply: Antec BP550 Plus
Total: $454

The only concern I have is playback of ripped 5GB Blu-ray movies (mkv format at 1080p through a projector) while streaming from a unRAID media server (wired Ethernet). Would this little system be able to handle this or should I recommend him to get another GPU?

i know this for fact, some hdtv output only stereo through optical from external source. if you watch over the air content with dts, it'll passthrough dts but "not" external source such as bd files, recorded show, etc on your htpc.

if your motherboard included optical or coax output, you still can connect hdmi from htpc to htdv, but connect optical from htpc to a/v receiver directly. you'll need to unchecked dts support in xbmc audio output. you'll get decoded lpcm from xbmc to a/v receiver!

it shouldn't have any problem playback encoded 5gb mkv of bluray movie. in fact, it can do 1:1 mkv rip in 1080p with dts-hd/truehd audio. if you don't like how it playback, you can always install one of these- Evga GeForce GT 430 or Sapphire Radeon HD 6570
