Hi there - was hoping somebody might be able to help me out with a tiny umbrella issue.

Ever since I got my ATV I have been unable to save my SHSH blobs with tiny umbrealla.

My ATV is recognised (only when it is plugged in power and usb)

I click save and then it says that every single firmware I am too late for - even the most current ones.

anyway I went ahead and jail broke my 4.2.1. (4.1.1.) ATV2 and installed XBMC etc.. and all was fine but a few days ago it broke (got stuck on apple logo).

So I have had to restore it - funny thing is Apple let me restore it with 4.2.1 so I guess that means that they must still be signing it - however tinyumbrella still refuses to save my SHSH blobs for any firmware at all

So I must be doing something wrong right....?

Can anyone shed any light on this? I am on windows 7 64bit - do I have to do something special (like DFU) or not use power or anything??

Its been a while so others are welcome to
Correct me but when I did mine, yes I had to
Be In dfu mode, but TU wouldn't auto recognise my atv (Like it does with my iPhone / iPad) you have to manually add it using dome USB tool to discover te ECID first. Can somebody help this guy out, I've had 6 pints already tonight and this is the furthest I can remember under my current intoxication level! Wink

Try this tutorial: http://appletvblogr.com/2010/12/how-to-save-shsh-files-for-the-apple-tv-2g-manually-using-tinyumbrella/

Thanks for this - However, have already seen that though

My problem is not that tinyumbreall will not recognise my device - it does recognise it (comes up with the device name, firmware version 4.2.1. ECID and serial etc..

That tutorial seems to assume you are having trouble with getting Tu to see the ATV2

Also its a MAC guide and doesn't say how to manually find the ECID for a windows machine

This is the log I get is I have option "request SHSH from Cydia" selected

and this is what I get if I try to untick the box (hadn't tried that last time)

Now the confusion things are:

that not one SHSH for any firmware in the first example will save

and in the second example its attempting to get 4.3.1 instead of 4.2.1

keeping in mind that apple (itunes) itself let me restore with 4.2.1. just moments before I tried this yesterday

I have one silly question - I dont have to jailbreak before I try this do I?

Here's a more/less random list of things to try/consider:
- should only need microUSB connected, using power too has been unpredictable (for me at least), I'd try to manually save the ECID /w USB only

- really odd that you can't even save the current SHSH blobs since there should be at least one firmware that Apple's signing, make sure you have the latest TU and try again /wo having power connected

- TU has been confused re: Apple TV software vs. iOS versions, there's a lot of that going around. For instance, I have an SHSH blob labelled AppleTV 4.3.3 (8F305) but that build is Apple TV 4.2.2 /w iOS 4.3 (according to Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4448 and under Settings > General > About).

- iFaith will supposedly let you dump SHSH blobs from the firmware that's on the device, even if Apple isn't signing them anymore, haven't tried it though

- you shouldn't need to jailbreak before doing this

- I'll try saving my SHSH blobs in bootcamp /w Win7 64bit to see what happens, stay tuned for an update unless I fall asleep and forget, EDIT: no luck... Tiny Umbrella seeing my atv2 as a recovery device. More investigation needed.

- jd2157 - 2011-06-12

Anyone have any luck getting their atv2 out of recovery mode? Tiny Umbrella's seeing mine as a recovery device but it's not technically stuck in recovery mode, i.e. it boots up fine and runs XBMC, no issues other than I can't save new SHSH blobs.

UPDATE: hehe... never mind... apparently you need to be pretty particular with TU, i.e. power the atv2 on (no other cables connected), start TU, then connect via micro USB.
