Thanks, fixed that.
Great to see that it come to this.

In order to upgrade the drivers from 11.11 do I need to do something special beyond the obvious stated above?

Already noticed that too.
We have some race condition here Smile

really, really cool - thank you. But we need another thread.

Just a typo it is: xbmc-bin and not xbmc.bin

thank you very much

I believe it's part of the evolution of this thread, but I don't mind opening a new one later on this evening.
You can PM me if you would like me include there any additional information.

- fritsch - 2011-12-14

This is really a good idea. We can talk on irc about what to be included. Concerning what works, what does not, where are bugs and what software constallation is to avoid.

thx again

In case anyone is interested, here's a new livecd (Ubuntu 11.10 and XBMC pre-Eden) with amd fusion support. I tried to fix the earlier issues found. Use unetbootin for USB creation. Use the Try Ubuntu without installing option to try XBMC.

can you link me the XBMCFreak Eden test version and Experimental XBMCFreak AMD Fusion / Nvidia ION git20110923

they both come up with not found.

If you want xvba you can use FernetMentas branch. Binaries are in my PPA (see my sig)

Are there any binaries for Debian and not Ubuntu? Or barring that a guide to compiling it for Debian...seems like they are not quite compatible enough to work together.

Unfortunately there aren`t but. You can easily get:
orig.tar.gz and the debian.gz
from
https://launchpad.net/~wsnipex/+archive/xbmc-xvba/+packages

You have to edit the dependencies in order to get it compiled with amdxvba.h, which is in debian package of fglrx-dev, if i am right?

A dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc should then be enough.

Yesterday I installed XBMC using Mtroi´s guide. The system is working great. Only had one freeze setup the master lock, but i can´t reproduce it anymore.

The only thing, I see, are sometimes glitches on a 1080p movie. The system corrects itself immediately but it can be annoying sometimes.
I use the nightly build of Nathan´s ppa.
I don´t know if it is because the system is working on a usb2 1Tb WD HD. Might it be due to the usb2.0 bandwidth or are the amd drivers not ready enough in linux, or is it xbmc itself? Are windows users having the same glitches with high bitrate 1080p movies?

(off topic: I thought that external usb drives were really SATA drives connected via a usb interface. Normally that is true. But this one was bad luck, WD took off the data connection and pasted a usb interface, And disc drives are so expensive now, so i have to wait half a year)

It is a sata drive connected to a usb interface, i opened up a few to put the drives in my server, you just have to remove the usb interface from it, unless yours is older/different
