XBMC Slim-2100
#16
bluray Wrote:Yes, download the latest nvidia control center and follow guides in post #6.

After scan It looks like I already have the latest drivers installed.. So, i'll just give up on the XBMC + MPC for bitstreaming and just use them separate until pre-Eden works better with my DTSHD issue..Sad

Sup Beer...!

Hey I just grabbed this thing last Thursday for $59 @BestBuy and it has dropped my CPU temps from about 44-46c with Intel heat sink down to about 28-31c(Idle) with the H60. I've not seen temps reach above 36c even after hours of use playing 1080p Vids and using RealTemp as my CPU temp gauge. Very easy to install and eliminates another fan! Definitely worth recommending I think if you ever get a request to advise on CPU coolers!Nod

it's good that it bring down the temperature with another cpu cooler, but it added another $59 to the overall price. if another $10 fan can do the same job, would it be worth saving $49? just a thought!
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Your absolutely right Blu... but eliminating fans has been my goal from the start that's why I dropped in the H60 for the CPU and the HIS Radeon HD6570 that you recommended(Very nice card).

One other reason for the cooler change was because the heatsink on the GPU was pressing against the Intel heatsink which didn't sit well with me so I also wanted to create space. The solution I liked most was the H60Big Grin

I really like your hardware options you picked for this rig! Now where are the pictures at? You should post them on your first page. Show the inside too.

You told me with dxva2 enabled on that HIS GPU card you don't get the pix-elation issue by FF and Rewind? That is just amazing.

On my gt430 I do... so I have to disable dxva2 so I can use my processor instead and that fixes the issue.

**** SORRY just noticed you have a slide show.... lol.... I am falling more and more in love with your setup.... I miss the sugo case now.

Did'nt want to be too big of a "show-off"..plus, build idea was not all mine. My XBMC bro's(Eskro,BluRay,Beer40oz,outtatouch) gave me the dynamite recommendations. The first build I tried on my own failed because I was inpatient and did'nt read-up thouroguly enough!!

Yes..amazing! My original NVIDIA GT520 card was sweet as well, but pixelation bad when advancing frames..lots of dropped frames!! AMD 6570 takes care of business very well for both audio and video. Thanks again bluray for the recommendation!!Wink

Yes, it's tight!! Slideshow only if you feel like seeing ANOTHER "my first HTPC". I figured these posts are getting a bit old so I did not want to be redundant and post pics on first page like most do!! Plus I had no stand-out issues or unique equipment to describe...

Thanks for the compliments on my build....all-in-all, pretty solid but nothing special!!

driver wise, all stable?
no issue with overscan and stuff?

Loving it so far! No issues aside from the DTSMA/preEDEN issues that i posted the Video on, and that you spent all that time helping me w/ no results.. I think we all came to the conclusion that it was my AVR having the issue specifically with pre-EDEN and not GPU

eskro Wrote:driver wise, all stable?

Running all up-to-date drivers and catalyst control center is awesome! Allowed me to stabilize picture and remove artifacts and shadows that were pretty common with fast moving objects and when camera would pan across screen.

eskro Wrote:no issue with overscan and stuff?

Oh..no, everything fits snug within my 55" screen.. Start button, minimize/close and item tray are all in the correct spots!!

BUT...

Networking issue..which I intent to take up on MPChc forum, but since this is my thread no need to worry bout Hi-Jacking it...lolBig Grin

MPC-hc is giving me too many problems i swear!! NOW..here is issue.. If i do a normal restart with network cable attached to HTPC rig, when I return to desktop and try to play a flick, I get the stuttering and buffer problems. Of course when i play the same flix with XBMC i'm golden...PERFECTION!! I can work around this issue by disconnecting network cable from HTPC prior to restart then reconnect once desktop pops-up..run flix on MPC-hc then no stutter, but this is a pain because i will not always remember to DC network cable every time i restart!! Of course i check intranetwork TX speeds with LAN speed tester and get between 30-35MB/s Write and 85-90MB/s read on a consistant basis between HTPC and unRAID even when testing immediatly after the MPC-hc network/stutter issue!! NIC and chipset drivers all up-to-date! ITX-h67MOBO

You ask..Y is MPC-hc so important to me? Well, preEden is not compatible with my AVR so I depend on MPC-hc to bitstream HD audio using playercorefactory script!!

The macroblocking issue has bothered me so much too. I wish I can use DXVA2 for less noise and heat with my gpu but I can't so I use the cpu instead.

Now I am leaning towards ATI.... i see that they fixed there driver issues.
Now I am really thinking of buying your GPU the HIS since you have tested it with 100% results. But it is pricey in a way. I am tired of changing GPU's

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814161374

So I might get that.... unless is there something cheaper you know about with good results? Yes and I would like it fanless.... how hot does your's get idle and playing a vid?

Whoa... Hold on my friend!! I would ask one of our XBMC bro's if the ATI issues are 100% and if it will work alongside your MOBO and processor. I'm not so sure if the reason why I'm getting the results I am is because of my additional equipment(MOBO Y Processor).

As far as heat... HIS fanless got pretty high...around 85c when doing 15min MSI Kombuster GPU burn-in. Idle = 42c Load W/1080P Vid = 65c W/DXVA2 enabled!!

Yes...pricey compared to other options but at least it is $69 now....I Paid $79!!

Also....Make sure you check the measurements of the fanless 6570. The heatsink on this card is HUGE, hence the reason for my CPU cooler purchase. I could not go with a traditional CPU cooler as recommended by the fellas because of the size of GPU heatsink!!

It would be great if someone knows for sure if I will not get that macroblocking issue with a ATI card.

Also noticed that bluray posted this card on another thread....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814102882
a 5450

and this 6450 looks interesting too...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814102933

But I am clueless of what they can do.

Okay this is what I'll do. I will post a small video and show you my results when advancing frames if this issue is that important to you. This may or may not reassure you but at least you can say you've seen the 6570 in action...:osort of! Would post 2nite but unRAID does monthly parity check inna bout 5min... But I will try to have it by 2morrow this time, i'm sure you can hold off on buying till' then....Nojunkie' just like me!!lol

...also, if there is anything other featues about the card you wish to see then let me know
