#76
I think we need to get back on track here. Just like all of you I have this problem and managed to get a full debug log just now.

crashlog (only last part, it was too big for pastebin): http://pastebin.com/CVDGrPaK

Has someone figured this out? Is that why the thread has stopped getting relies?

Please help, this makes XBMC unusable, and like others the RC builds of eden worked just fine on my box.

I'd like to know as well. I also had major problems on an upgrade to Eden (thankfully loaded to a 2nd HDD). The video never even started to play, but crashed xbmcbuntu straight away. I posted about the problem after searching for answers - along with several logs - and never got a reply., Hope this gets resolved.

I haven't seen much info pointing to helping with these issues. I don't know if the XBMC team has any fixes planned or any other post releases like they did with 10.0. The latest blog post http://xbmc.org/natethomas/2012/05/02/xb...ril-cycle/ states they are going in a new direction with bug fixes, but it sounds like its only a plus for windows users, so that seems to do nothing for us.

I posted a thread about my issues and it seems as if no one really cares on here about linux users.. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=127565

I would suggest you guys try XBMCfreaks http://www.xbmcfreak.nl/en/xbmcbuntu-11-...dition-v2/ or OpenELEC http://openelec.tv/. They seem to be working on the linux version of XBMC. My HTPC is working a little better with XBMCfreaks , but seems to take a bit longer to load and my Revo I just went back to 10.1 for now.

I am having trouble. I receive the OpenGL error as expected. I get to a terminal and edit the grub file. However when I reboot I get the same dialogue. I never see a menu asking me to choose a version. Any suggestions?

Well, upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 did not solve the problem for me Sad

As with others, everything was working fine on Ubuntu 11.04 and XBMC 10, after upgrading to ubuntu 11.10 the problem started, further upgrade to 12.04 and same problem.

After reading this thread went and upgraded to 12.10, although had to manually edit source.list and do a "apt-get dist-upgrade" because "do-release-upgrade -d" was doing nothing. Update went ok and system rebooted fine, I did not have to edit grub settings like some people did.

But, the problem is still the same.

On my case the issue only occurs when playing tvcatchup, sometimes sounds plays for 5 seconds with no video then all freezes, sometimes video plays for 20 seconds then all freezes.

One difference, I'm using xorg-edges ppa.

Will continue to troubleshoot later.

I solved my problem by editing my grub timeout to -1. Then I got the menu, made my selection and changed it back to 10. But the "do-release-upgrade -d" also only got me to 12.04.

I never had the freeze happen to me on RC2 but it is happening now a few times a day with final version. Turning off VDPAU is a temporary fix and is fine for now as my Acer Revo 3700 plays 720p and less great with VDPAU off, 1080 is a no go.

When I get the time I will try to grab some log files.

I never had the time to get any detailed logs of my Revo 3700 freezing and today I had been reading good things about XBMCFreak and the Revo 3700 so I decided to give a fresh install of XBMCFreak a go. So far I have no freezes* and the sound worked right from the install without fiddling.

Edit*

Still have the random freeze with VDPAU enabled, not as often but still there.

Don't know if this will help or not but I had similar problem with video freezing using Aeon Nox Git although they all played fine under Aeon Nox.

Disabled Movie Sets and now everything seems to be OK.

I have had some success (only one crash in a month) if I pause a bit before making a selection in the menu after I move the cursor. Now, when I want to play a video, I just do:

1. Move cursor to video
2. Wait 2-3 seconds
3. Press "Ok" to play video

I have not upgraded anything in my setup, waiting a few seconds seems to help.

Take a look here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=128457&page=2

Looks like it's fixed now, although only in an unstable build for the moment Smile

This appears to work for me as well, the amount of crashes has been reduced significantly. Good work around until we get the fix.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Thread is around because the problem is largely unresolved. Am I misunderstanding?
