Linux AudioEngine testers - Linux only
just upgraded to 304.43 to test. on the plus side 24p switching worked flawlessly for me so that was nice. sadly still getting alsa underruns and audio dropouts with dts-hd and truehd material.

dts-hd:
Code:
16:41:28 T:2940648256   ERROR: CAESinkALSA::HandleError(snd_pcm_wait) - underrun
16:41:31 T:2821663552   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity - was:145676393.758333, should be:145634685.425000, error:-41708.333333

truehd:
Code:
16:46:39 T:2940648256   ERROR: CAESinkALSA::HandleError(snd_pcm_writei(1)) - underrun
16:46:40 T:2821663552   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity - was:26752261.447681, should be:26645152.778681, error:-107108.669000

log: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=8294

i may try picking up a gt430 or gt520 as the g210 technically doesn't support bitstreaming dts-hd/truehd material. i guess the underrun could be explained by a hardware issue but i assumed it was an alsa bug.

nvidia-current
304.43-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1

Wonder if thats whats causing my DTS HD Master not to work...

Whats the recommended drivers to use for the gt430 ?

Many thanks,
As vic said we have been testing AE over at the openelec forums. People are reporting good success with the 304.43 drivers while others are still using the 290.10 drivers

Its odd man, im running 304.43.. and all i get is constant dropouts, and noise, could it be a config issue?
I have only tried a DTS HD Master track so far, ill have to try TrueHD see how that goes..

Cheers,

In xbmc I believe we have:

sync display to playback - Disabled
Adjust display refresh rate to match video - Disabled
ensure you have enabled trueHd and MasterAudio in the audio options

If I was you I would just try a openelec frodo install, even install it to a USB, then it will confirm its a settings issue not your hardware.

Good idea, never tried openelec, is there a guide, to doing an openelec frodo install?

get the frodo openelec tar from: http://openelec.tv/forum/20-development-...ue-reports <<< post #1 (you will want the Generic version for Nvidia). You will have to register on the forums to access this thread

guide to installation here: http://openelec.tv/installation

Edit: its a nightly build - currently menu sounds are not working without making a mod (just to warn you in case you think the audio is not working, you will have to test a video)

I made a changes in HDA-Intel.conf -> this is my file after changes: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1199406/

Then my last tip is to verify again that you have made the changes to the correct .conf-file, there may be several of them floating around.
Also verify that the file still has the correct read-access after editing.

You have a different kernel from mine, there may be other differences as well.
Someone more knowledgeable on alsa and Linux may be able to help you, and you could try to ask the question in another thread, seeing as this thread is supposed to be about AudioEngine development.

@furii
I have a GT520 and I have also audio dropouts.
However, I think there are fewer with the 304.43 driver.
In case I run XBMC in a smaller window there are no audio dropouts, at least during half an hour play.

good to know. glad i didn't go out and buy one Smile the dropouts still happen frequently enough with 304.43 to be distracting so i've switched off dts-hd and truehd bitstreaming for the time being. luckily i've also encoded my tracks as FLAC; lpcm doesn't suffer any of audio dropouts for some reason even though the same amount of bandwidth is being used.

@vicbitter
what kernel are you guys using?

I was able to have passthrough and normal audio with PA but not anymore.
I'm back to having to suspend PA before starting XBMC :/

Unlike a couple months ago, it does not crash or lag or anything.. just no audio when using "--enable-pulse" and targeting the correct pulse card. pavucontrol shows an audio stream inside xbmc menu, but nothing more once I start a movie.
weirdly enough music works though...

I am running Arch Linux, with latest everything, and a RadeonHD 4670 using the radeon driver and HDMI audio.
I'll try a bitsec sometime next week and see if I can find the culprit.

The last good commit I have for now is 086d26200091871d8607e4e75c476e150c1b962d.
After that they are many build breaks so it becomes hard to find the culprit...
Just one day later and I cannot build anymore for a long time till early September (I think, I have not tried all the commits in between... but jumping from one day to another) when it becomes buildable again, but no pulseaudio anymore...

Ony my setup, I use the following settings:

Adjust display refresh rate to match video: Enabled
Sync playback to display: Disabled

Plus the audio options

The standard OpenELEC builds we do use kernel 3.2.28...

Have you tried any of the samples from here? A good site to use so that folks can all be using the same sample tracks to compare results.

Since the new audio engine features went in I've been experiencing video stuttering when playing back 5.1 AAC material which is transcoded and my receiver sees as AC3 5.1 - the sound plays back fine but the video stutters and log is full of lines such as:

DEBUG: CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity - was:2923346403.262723, should be:2923526743.400335, error:180340.137612

I submitted a trac bug report http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/13093 back in June when I first spotted it but looks like I should have reported in this thread instead. There must be a lot of users with a similar setup who don't have an AAC capable receiver but I've not seen any bug reports with the same symptoms so I'm thinking it must be something particular to my hardware or it's configuration.

I've updated the trac bug with a new debug log and some more system information - could someone take a look and see what you make of it - thanks.

My system is a fully updated 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04
Linux kernel is 3.2.0-30.
Nvidia driver is 304.43.
The XBMC version is compiled 31/8, with the standard setup
./bootstrap
./configure
make
sudo make install
