as already explained to you in the two other threads where you cross posted this, that has nothing whatever to do with audio!

Just tried the new RC3 release. Has the Dolby TrueHD downmixing been broken? On Eden, I would playback a file with TrueHD soundtrack and it would automatically get downmixed to a 5.1 AC3 640kbit/s signal and play flawlessly on my Yamaha receiver connected via optical SPDIF. With Frodo , the signal I get on the receiver is still 5.1 AC3, however, only the front speakers play sound. Voices etc. are there, so it seems like it just gets downmixed to stereo, packaged in 5.1 AC3.

Edit: If I select HDMI as output device and disable "LPCM Multichannel support" I get 5.1 AC3 over optical out. Switching back to Optical/Coax breaks it again. Weird.

I am using the latest XBMC build under Ubuntu 12.4 and I've just tried to play some True-HD and DTS-HD MA test videos, but either I am getting no sound or I just get noise on my Onkyo TX-NR818. (When I press the O key I see that the DTS-HD and True-HD sound is recognized by XBMC)
I have an Zotac GeForce GT 610 Zone Edition graphics card in my mediacenter to output the audio to my receiver. I've enabled DTS-HD and True-HD in my audio settings and set the right device. (regular AC3 movies are working)
What could be the problem? Here is my log output when I try to play one of the test videos:

I think you will need ot give a full debug report from xbmc startup until after you stop playing the test vid. And post it to a paste site like pastebin.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

Ok I've pasted the whole debug log under: http://pastebin.com/c097yyRt

I see your output device is called hdmi-remap. That implies to me that you are using an asound.conf or~/.asoundrc. I have seen plenty of posts indicating that this should be unnecessary on frodo. Try doing without those files (rename them, don't delete, makes it easier to get them back).

I appreciate that your sound channels may need remapping, but let's eliminate asound.conf as a sourc of problems for the moment...

Yes that was the problem. I did configure my mediacenter as written in the wiki on this page: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...controller
I reverted all my changes and after a reboot of my mediacenter DTS-HD and TrueHD playback is working!

Thanks for the advice.

@thenetstriker

I added warning to wiki page as those instructions are for EDEN and will not likely (clearly do not) to work with Frodo which obviously has audioEngine and Eden Does not.

Sorry, but I'm experiencing silence with 7.1 AAC files (in mp4 and mkv). I'm not sure if this is a result of remapping (only have a stereo system atm) or if it's a version or system-specific (openelec on rpi) problem. XBMC log doesn't seem to show that it recognizes that anything is awry (can post if anyone thinks it relevant.) Nobody has thusfar answered me across multiple fora; maybe I should have begun here...

@LastSilmaril

What remapping? What XBMC version do you have? What Hardware have you got these problems on?

I quoted Crayden's post above, but here it is in full:
Quote:If this has not already been taken care of can some who's able to look into channel mappings for the AE have a look at this:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=147170&page=2

basically 7.0 and 7.1 aac audio channels are labled differently even though the actual order is as one would have expected. But the result is as stated in this thread and the channel are outputted in the wrong order. If this is something which should be fixed in the decoder it would be nice if someone can give me a hint where or who'd be the best location to address this issue to. As stated in the thread above LAV and ffdshow (libav) share the same issue. But my guess is that they're decoding it with the defined channel order and names (at least from looking at the LAV status output) but then wrongly map/mix these channels to the actual 7.1 layout.

Otherwise I really love the new AE, just had a minor issue with 24bit 192khz flac playback through spdif where the audio began to stutter, but for me this is less important than the 7.1 channel mapping issue
So thanks a lot for the good work! I really love it.

I am using OpenELEC on the Raspberry Pi (two of them; one model B 256MB, and one Model B 512MB). Update the builds every few days. But you're right that I didn't mention the exact XBMC; sorry. Right now, the version of XBMC being used is 12.0-RC2 Git:c0320c2 (Compiled: Dec 28, 2012).

My exact problem right now is that I'm getting no output whatsoever with 7.1 AAC audio, in any container. But the only problem I've seen reported is the wrongly-mapped channels. I was thinking that they may be linked.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

EDIT: Here also is the ticket for the channels not being mapped properly bug:
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/13758

EDIT2: Problem persists with XBMC 12.0-RC3 acfe70f (compiled today) and the latest OpenELEC build.

Ok lets clear up a few things...

The remapping is ONLY for ION 1st generation (as it clearly states on the link), -> VIA HDMI only not for any other machines, this is the most important part, all other machines do not need it.

AE it self has internal problem with mapping, there a re several PR's to try and resolve something but they cant agree on what to do with PR's

Also If any of these PR's you guys can pull and build and test them for yourself s.... However remove ANY remapping you done need to be removed.

So grab the PR's find them and compile them and submit feedback on them.

Just my 2c on this mess of trying to change a light bulb with a pair of pliers.

Thank you very much. I looked at the long PR linked to in the other thread, but their concern is the downmix map, from what I can tell. But I've just discovered that a) I don't have any audio output with 7.1 AAC, even if I set the output in system settings to 7.1 in conjunction with a 7.1 receiver b) even when I use 5.1, it is downmixed to 2.0 when sent to my receiver. LOL. What a mess. I wish I knew how to help fix it...

Given b) though, I suppose it's worth checking out the PR. That's something. Thank you.
