I capture TV from a Blackgold Freeview HD card, they play back fine in XBMC but when i try and fast forward or skip forward the video freezes and breaks up causing XBMC to lock up.

Does anyone else use XBMC for this and is it possible to make it stop crashing XBMC?

You can try a nightly build to see if the recent ffmpeg changes help. You can actually install it into a different folder and run it in portable mode. This will prevent it from messing up your current install and let you test it out.
