@MasterPhW:

I installed this for the first time and added the folder to search for my files. After the search is complete, I get a "Access to path "C:\Program Files\Video Explorer\CoverFlowPlaceholder.jpg" is denied.

Then I have to select quit.

Any ideas on how to fix?

TIA,

AL

Thanks for reporting the issue.

That seems to be an outright permissions issue where the app itself can't get access to it's own install folder.

I haven't seen that before but I'm assuming your user account has very low privileges for that to be happening.

The actual problem is that VE is finding video files that don't have any cover art and so it's trying to use a standard placeholder image instead.

To be honest, I should have made that particular code just ignore any problems with loading the placeholder and just draw nothing.

I think I need to go add that placeholder image to the exe itself as an embedded resource, that will resolve this properly.

I'll have a look at it now and hopefully release a fix in the next few hours.

v2.3.0.0 Released - 05/02/2014
-------------------------------------------

1. Bug fix : If you ran VideoExplorer under a user account that is not an administrator on the local machine, VideoExplorer would not have access to the poster placeholder image needed by the CoverFlow control.

To work around the permissions issues VideoExplorer will no longer look for that image in it's install folder. The image is now an embedded resource inside the exe itself.

2. Feature add: Added a new Video Format icon next to the Resolution and Audio Format icons below the main grid.

Currently there are special icons for the following 5 Video Formats:

AVC H.264
HEVC H.265
VC-1
MPEG-2
MPEG-4

NOTE:

I'm aware of the error message that sometimes pops up straight after an automatic update installs and the app is auto restarted.

It is related to the installer and file locks on the installers own log file.

It is not a fatal error and if you just click OK when it happens it will go away and shouldn't happen again. It should only happen once after an auto update.

I'm working on a fix now.

Works now. The auto update did not work but once I uninstalled and re-installed all works.

Thanks again.

Doesn't look like it has updated yet.

It's still looking for that jpg file and the new version doesn't look for that file at all anymore.

When you run the app it should pop up an updater dialog that asks if you want to update and then downloads the update and installs it for you.

The only way you can still be getting that error is if you are still running the old version.

Feature request:

Can there be an option when right clicking a file it would take you to the folder location?

Once I remux a file, I then need to navigate to the folder to delete the old one after validating the file was created as expected.

TIA,

AL

Good suggestion, I'll add it.

Have you resolved your issue with the placeholder image now ?

Did the last update resolve that ?

Oh wait, I just saw your other post about uninstalling and re-installing.

Interesting that the auto-updater isn't working for you either. I wonder if that's another permissions thing preventing it ?

Did the update notification dialog not appear at all when you exited the app and ran it again ?

v2.4.0.0 Released - 08/02/2014
-------------------------------------------

1. Feature add: Charts (graphs) are now available
that give you statistics about your media.

On main grid right-click menu, 3rd option from
the top: "View Charts".

Currently there are charts for the following:

- Distinct file types
- Distinct audio stream formats
- Distinct audio stream formats incl. profile
- Distinct video stream formats
- Distinct video stream formats incl. profile
- Distinct video resolutions
- Distinct video frame rates

2. Bug fix: The Video Format column on the main
grid will no longer show an empty set of round
brackets after the Format if there is no
associated encoding profile.

3. Bug fix: If attempt to play a media file that
is of a type that does not have a default
media player associated with it in Windows,
it will no longer cause an exception to be
thrown. VE will now handle it gracefully.

v2.4.2.0 - 10/02/2014
---------------------

1. Feature add: It is now possible to change the
language of streams on the Remux form.

2. Enhancement: The Remove Header Stripping
feature has been enhanced as follows:

a. There is now only 1 option on the menu for
Remove Header Stripping, not 2.

b. The Remove Header Stripping form now has
a tickbox to specify if original files
should be overwritten or not and another
tickbox to specify if CueDuration and
CueRelativePosition elements are embedded
in the output MKV or not (removing those
elements is necessary to create MKV files
that are compatible with some Samsung TVs).

I'm aware that the auto updater currently spawns 2 instances of VideoExplorer, 1 on top of the other, when it restarts the app for you.

That is not correct behaviour, but also not a major problem.

I'm working on solving it.
