Linux PVR on XBMC with Sat>IP Source

Big Grin
Hello everybody,

I am using xbmc for many years as Media Center now I want to extend this with PVR and DVB-S.

I am using a Asrock Vision 3D as Media Center PC with XBMCbuntu. As this is a very small Form-Factor I am not able to use any PCI-Express Cards.
USB could be a possibilty but I dont like the external Device hanging arround.

I thougt of a Setup that might could work - but i am not sure. So I am asking you.

I want to place a SAT>IP Converter (http://www.satip.info/products/SAT%3EIP%20Servers) near my DVB-S Multiswitch in the cellar and connect it to my ethernet. So I have a "remote" SAT Receiver. Now I connect a PVR Backend like TVHeadend to the SAT>IP Converter and the XMBC PVR Plugin to TVHeadend.

Does anybody have such a Setup and knows it works? I did some research and found only this: https://tvheadend.org/issues/1373 . But I think this is designed to use TVHeadend as as SAT>IP Converter not a SAT>IP Client.

Thanks for any help with this.

Regards,
Sebastian

I think you can manually add the channels as IPTV sources in tvheadend, although I don't think anyone has ever tried it. I suggest getting a standard tuner instead, you won't gain anything by getting a SAT>IP device.

Thanks for your reply.

I wanted to avoid a Standard USB Tuner.

I simply cannot find any Information if it would work to use TVHeadend/XBMC as SAT>IP Client.

The benefits I havr from a SAT>IP soloution would be the following:

SAT>IP is multituner -> which means watch/record at the same time (I can't use a USB Multituner cause I only have one Coaxial SAT Cable at my XBMC)
I don't have a additional device in my living room
I can watch TV directly on any PC or Tablet in my House.

I just found something:

http://shop.digital-devices.de/Uebersich...IP-Clients
This Website says SAT>IP works with XBMC:

XBMC per DVBLink
XBMC per DVBViewer Recording Service

Anyone expirience with this?

Yes, i have some experience with sat<IP solutions. Give this a try. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?pid...pid1597442
It worked fine for me, it's slim, fast and stable.
I tried with crystalbuntu ( has issues with h.264 transport streams) and win 7 + xbmc Gotham with demux fix, this setup worked like a charm.

You'll still need two coaxial cables to get dual-tuner functionality out of a SATIP box, just look at the pictures on e.g. Digital Devices' website.

Furthermore you could stream TV to any device just as easily if you use a standard PC tuner.

To get the quad tuner functionality with a SAT>IP server, you need four coax cables. But the cables are connected to the SAT>IP server, which might be very close to your dish. Which makes the life much easier. You can also use Unicable instead, which means only one cable and four tuner available.

That's assuming the thing he bought supports Unicable.

A bit late probably, but very curious what the current status is, did you get it working?

You can now also get a SAT>IP LNB with 8 tuners integrated I believe.
