Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows
KODI QUICK START GUIDE

I recommend installing Artwork Beef with any Kodi installation. TV show and movie scrapers will only download a basic poster and default background for each title. Artwork Beef can fill out the remaining artwork (fanart, logos, clearart, disc art, thumbs, character art, etc.) in your library. Many skins make use of this extra artwork, making this add-on a required addition for a complete visual experience.

Artwork Beef should run automatically after each title is scraped into the library and update existing titles as new artwork becomes available.

Complete artwork is downloaded via Artwork Beef:

TV SHOW SCRAPING

The TVDB scraper

The default metadata scraper for TV shows is The TVDB. Basic set up applies and the only meaningful option involves the choice of a ratings system. It is recommended to choose IMDb ratings over The TVDB as these ratings have greater support and relevance.

Basic TV Folder Structure:

(Folder) TV Show -> (Folder) Season 1 -> (File) TV Show S01E01

MOVIE SCRAPING

Universal Movie Scraper

The Universal Movie Scraper is the flagship Kodi scraper for movies. This add-on is not installed by Kodi but is recommended due to its deep customization. For example, it is the only movie scraper that properly scrapes IMDb Top 250 ratings.

The Universal Movie Scraper is found in the Kodi Add-on repository and can be accessed via the Add-on manager:
  1. Settings
  2. Add-ons
  3. Install from repository
  4. Kodi Add-on repository
  5. Information providers

Adding Media Source Flags to Filenames:

In addition to standard file naming conventions, it is possible to add specific keywords ("tags") to filenames to change the source of media flags displayed by Kodi. For example, by default, the source flag reads and returns the video codec of each file (e.g. H264). By adding specific keywords, the source flag can be modified to better reflect the actual source of the rip: DVD, BLURAY, HDDVD, HDTV, iTunes, etc.

Adding a known tag to a filename such as BLURAY returns a unique media flag.

ADDING VIDEO SOURCES

With proper naming conventions and folder structure, it is possible to add media sources to your library. This topic is explained in detail in the Kodi Wiki. Remember to adjust Settings for the The TVDB and Universal Movie Scraper before scraping.

Adding Video Sources

Configuring SMB File Sharing in Windows 10:
VIDEO LIBRARY BACKUP

It is a good idea to back-up your video library on an ongoing basis. This is especially important if you have gone through the library and applied custom artwork to specific titles. Library exports will maintain this customization even if the library is somehow lost.

Library exports store individual artwork and .nfo files, which contain custom artwork choices and other metadata in the same folder as the TV show or movie. This essentially makes your Kodi video library portable and simple to transfer to fresh instances of Kodi without losing any previous customization.

All media drives must be configured for Write access to allow exported content to be saved and overwritten. Note: NFOs generated by Kodi can be read by other media frontends such as Emby Server.

Exporting the library as separate files is best to maintain compatibility of the library with fresh Kodi installations.

AUTOMATIC FILE RENAMING AND MANAGEMENT TOOLS

Supplementary tools are available to assist in managing your media library. These tools are particularly desirable for monitoring folders for new content and automatically renaming and moving content to the media folders.

Seems it's only on the 15.x release?
Also will it work with any PVR back end? I'm running "dvr" as my Live TV backend.
Thanks,

FYI, currently using madVR v0.88.14 and find the new and improved super-xbr is the best new algorithm added to madVR since NNEDI3.

superxbr150 + AR chroma upscaling is already as fast as Jinc, but super-xbr is sharper with less ringing.

super-xbr is also able to double luma/chroma resolution with half the resources of NNEDI332.

super-xbr and 10-bit output are both very useful alongside the new AdaptiveSharpen, FineSharp, LumaSharpen. Although, I don't use the sharpeners.

Image Enhancements are possible with low-powered graphics cards. Upscaling Refinement are not.

Ok I'm obviously missing something.
The post linked to above is using a RTSP protocol & only seems to work with MediaPortal & ArgusTV,
I can find no guide that says how to setup the various xml files to use DSPlayer with "pvr".
All of the guides to seem to say set DVDPlayer as the player for "pvr"
This is obviously not what I need for pvr with DSPlayer.
I'll do some more testing to see what I can get working

Edit: Found some posts that help clarify what's going on for "pvr"
1666686 (post)

It seems there are a number of different protocols used in communicate with PVR backends.
I'm using "dvr" on my linux box with VNSI plug in on the windows side to communicate.
It seems this combination is not (yet?) supported.
Is there a list anywhere of the backend PVRs which are/are not supported with DSPLayer?
It seems that DSPlayer has not fully implemented what is in DVDPlayer for building graphs for all file/protocl/encoding combinations - is this correct?
From the debug logs, DVDPlayer seems to use some "internal" (hardcoded?) decoders instead of DirectShow filters - is this correct?.

Getting Live TV working with madVR in a single player will greatly help my TV viewing experience at 4K (the internal TV upscaler is quite bad) - some of the latest image sharpening processing added to madVR are making significant difference to image quality.
I'm prepared to live with "lags" etc, just give me the picture quality - I'm so close.....

UPDATE: Isengard DSPlayer Rc1, link updated at first page

this release includes all patches made by Romank1 on pvr side (thx for your work on this project)
i removed the link to Helix DSPlayer because madVR integration was too old and unstable compared to Isengard DSPlayer

SVP isn't working in RC1, fdshow icon is in the system tray when playing videos but SVP says it's waiting for fdshow. Strange.

EDIT: Never mind, it decided to start working again.

Full log at http://pastebin.com/S7gPafLJ. I'm using the DSPlayer starter kit as provided, without modification, located in C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\.

The OS is Win 8.1 x64.

- using Kodi Helix 14.2 from the DSPlayer thread
- madVR 0.88.12
- LAV filters 0.65, installed using the binary installer, either installing x86 version only or x86 and x64 both.
- XySubfilter is XySubFilter_3.1.0.705_x86_BETA2

using filtersconfig.xml and mediasconfig.xml as found in the abovementioned thread.

I went through the troubleshooting suggestions in the thread (reinstalling a few times, ensuring Use System Filter is unchecked in DSPlayer settings, etc).but to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Warner306 for moving this post. I've tried this again with the Isengard beta and the RC1 and still no go. It seems to have an issue with the lavsource source filter. How can I verify this has been installed properly?

Code:
11:28:04 T:1052   ERROR: CFilterCoreFactory::GetFilterFromName Filter "lavsource" isn't loaded. Please check dsfilterconfig.xml
11:28:04 T:1052   ERROR: CFGLoader::LoadFilterRules Failed to insert the source filter
11:28:04 T:1052   ERROR: CFGManager::RenderFileXbmc Failed to load filters rules
11:28:04 T:1052   ERROR: CDSPlayer::Process - Failed creating DS Graph

In filtersconfig.xml there is

Code:
-<filter type="source" name="lavsource">

<osdname>LAV Source</osdname>

<guid>{B98D13E7-55DB-4385-A33D-09FD1BA26338}</guid>

</filter>

and that seems to match what RadLight Filter Manager is finding as DirectShow filters (extract)

Code:
"LAV Audio Decoder",{E8E73B6B-4CB3-44A4-BE99-4F7BCB96E491},00800003,"C:\Program Files (x86)\LAV Filters\x86\LAVAudio.ax",0.65.0.0
"LAV Splitter",{171252A0-8820-4AFE-9DF8-5C92B2D66B04},00800004,"C:\Program Files (x86)\LAV Filters\x86\LAVSplitter.ax",0.65.0.0

so I'm not sure where to go from here. Is there an alternative source filter that can be used, for example? Thanks!

Just curious, has anyone tried using a NUC to run Kodi DSPlayer? The new Core i7 version (NUC5i7RYH) sounds like it would be more than enough...

My media center PC is starting to give me problems and all my media is now on NAS so this looks like a nice alternative to a PC..

Been using DSPlayer with a NUC Intel 54250WYK3 with a Core i5 since araconz started producing builds.

The CPU isn't all that important. It is the GPU that becomes stressed. You would be able to use the default madVR settings, but the picture quality will still be superior to DVDPlayer.

I have an annoying problem I can't get rid of.
I have xysubfilter and when I download a subtitle when the movie is playing I have to restart video to get subtitle loading. I have completely reinstalled Kodi 15 rc1 from scratch. Help please

that's to to lavsplitter not knowing it is there. when you restart the movie it sees the new subtitle file so it can load it.

So the fix is stopping the movie and restarting it since now lavsplitter can now see the file.

A work around that can be done on this side is have the filters reloaded after reconizing a call to download subs was made, but it's essentially going to be the same thing as stopping the movie and restarting.
