I've asked this question in the OSMC forum too (link), but it might not be an OSMC related problem, but Kodi related. So I hope you will forgive me the double post...

I use OSMC version: 0.9.9 (RC1?) and Kodi version: "compiled Apr 17 2015", my Raspberry Pi version is B.

Most DVD images play just fine. But I've got some images that stop playing after 10 sec. You can skip, say, 30 sec. and then again playback stops after about 10 sec. showing a still image. After that you can only press 'stop'. I have the mpeg2 licence.

Said DVD images play just fine in VLC on my PC. Can I install a different DVD player than the default one in Kodi? This used to be possible in XBMC and solved some problems for me in the past. Is it possible to use VLC as video player in Kodi?

Here are the debug logs when I try to play one of those video_ts folders from an USB hard drive connected to the Pi:

The debug log shows that Kodi stopped playing the DVD playing at 14:14:14 w/ the message: "DEBUG: CDVDPlayer:rocessSubData: Got complete SPU packet". Some minutes after that I pressed Stop on my keyboard (i.e. X) and after that some more messages are logged.

What's wrong?

Hi,
I've this problem too.
I can see (and hear) only the first 7 seconds of a dvd iso.
My setup: Raspberry pi 2, USB HDD 2.5" attached, wifi dongle, both mpe2 and vc-1 lic. installed. No psu problems at all. OSMC RC2.
Everything run fine except dvd isos: they hang after few seconds. They used to work with Raspbmc latest version with Raspberry pi model B.

I noticed that if I disable acceleration at all (MMAL and OXM) I can see the dvd contents but the menu is not rendered correctly

There's been a substantial rewrite of dvdplayer/mmal so this issue may have been fixed.

Sure, I'll do a uSD backup and then install a nightly OE build to test if it solves.

Wait a minute! If I disable those two acceleration methods then the video does play (too slow because of the CPU limitations of the Pi 1B). If I only enable OXM acceleration then t takes 15 seconds more to "crash".

So it definitely seems to be the acceleration!

You can backup your OSMC installation with Win32DiskImager: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/

I think popcornmix has improved the implementation of MMAL hw acceleration, so if it solves this problem with Openelec maybe the code can be backported on OSMC in the future

No, it's a kodi (for Raspberry pi) stuff IMHO.
Popcornmix has improved the hw video acceleration and I believe you can find these improvements in some Openelec builds, probably based on kodi 15 beta.

I tried OE 5.95.1 for Raspberry pi 2 (http://releases.openelec.tv/OpenELEC-RPi...5.1.img.gz) and then the Milhouse nightly build #0519. OE did the update at reboot but the problem with dvd isos persist. MMAL acceleration enabled by default (OMXPlayer acceleration is disabled but enabling it doesn't help).

If not then a sample file would be useful. It should be possible to use an ISO editor to remove the main feature (or reduce it to a couple of minutes).

I personally always have the skip intro option on: it does not help.

I use Linux: what ISO editor do you mean? To cut a large portion out of the video_ts folder, that is?

Don't the log files that I posted help at all?

P.S. The problem lies in the hardware acceleration: if MMAL and OMXplayer acc. are disabled said DVD's do play (but very stuttery on the Pi 1 B of course).
