OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 16.0)
(2015-10-20, 23:52)BubbleBobble Wrote: Sorry if this is known but are there issues with MPEG-2 in m2ts files?

I happen to bounce upon two movies who have stuttering playback. When looking at the content it showed they are MPEG-2.

Here is the info about 'Age of Adeline'

Name: 00006.MPLS
Length: 1:52:41.629 (h:mConfused.ms)
Size: 20,143,435,776 bytes
Total Bitrate: 23.83 Mbps

VIDEO:

Codec Bitrate Description
----- ------- -----------
MPEG-2 Video 20654 kbps 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9

Odd thing is when i play them from disc with my USB bluraydrive connected to the Pi2 i have no stuttering.

LAN speed is not keeping up? How can i verify that? I don't use wifi.

Nobody else has problems with streaming MPEG2 like above?

I made an mkv of the main movie. Tried on NFS/SAMBA. Replaced LAN switch.

It keeps stuttering Sad

Running build #1123
Hi,

I have been having the buffering bug for a few releases now on my raspberry pi (v1 B, not v2)
Can tell starting with which but I definitely had it with previous builds and still have it with the build of Nov 22nd (build 1122)

The issue is for some videos some reason, can't really determine a pattern
When I open a new video (from LAN NAS) I get a buffering progress bar that kinda hangs and grows very slowly
The system is unresponsive during this, Yatse even sees it offline

2 ways out of this :
- wait for a while, the buffering will go away, most of the times the video won't start, just bac kto the previous screen
- connect in SSH and either kill Kodi or reboot raspberry pi

Never had that in 6.0 and my network is fast, no one else on it and NAS is very very responsive

  • Odroid C2 - Libreelec 8.2.5 & Libreelec 9.0.1
Can testers perform the following check with the latest build (#1122 or later) and post if there are any problems:

1. Enable debug logging
2. Play a video full screen
3. Switch to window mode (\ on a keyboard)
4. Go to System -> Addons
5. From the blade menu, click on "Check for Updates"

With PR8407 added in #1122, this should now work as expected, ie. the repositories and addons should be updated while the video is playing in the background.

Prior to #1122, "Check for Updates" would remain paused the entire time a video is playing, whether windowed or full screen, and would not resume until the video is stopped (see example below - it's not very clear but there's a movie playing in the background, and the "Checking for add-on updates" dialog will remain permanently visible in the GUI until the video is stopped):

If you have a crash, or the addons/repositories are not updated, please post details (link to crashlog or debug log). Many thanks.

I have updated o the 1123 build (of the day) and I can't play any video anymore
I have the buffering going way faster but when it reaches 100% and disappears I am left with a black screen and no sound

WiFi? Wired?

Only with LAN/NAS videos, what about local videos (SD/USB attached storage) or internet videos?

When did the problem start, which build? If you're not sure, go back through the daily builds until you find a build that doesn't have the problem.

Finally, where's your debug log (wiki)?

Try disabling passthrough. That has had a significant rewrite in the last couple of days and could still have issues.
Also does enabling/disabling omxplayer in video/acceleration settings make a difference?

Just tested and for me this works at #1123

Could you comment MPEG2 is an issue? Movies like Age of Adeline and Kung Fu Hustle just dont run smooth. I believe my LAN is fast enough as i can play other videocodecs (2D & 3D) fine.

Do you have MPEG-2 codec licence? Can you post a debug log (wiki)?
Thanks for the feedback

Passthrough was disabled

I just disabled omxplayer in acceleration and everything works fine again

If I can provide anything to help improve the behavior, please tell me

Hello Milhouse

I have a problem that is not only found in your builds but also the latest official from OpenELEC. I have found out from when it started happening with your builds though, so I was hoping you could help narrow down what happened. I have a thread started here http://openelec.tv/forum/124-raspberry-p...-in-oe-6-0

With a fresh install on the RPi2 I have no problems with the builds from 09/24/15 and earlier, but from 09/25/15 and onwards it is present.

Problem lies with navigating while having my wireless external keyboard connected. It will act as if there is a ghost in the system and by itself go back to previous menus or deselect selected items. This happens randomly when browsing through the system.

Example from the log:

I was at the main menu and pressed the down button three times, and the selected target got unselected.

Code:

Here is the whole log, should it have interest: log

I think the problem is here:
Code:
07:27:38 530.574158 T:1781527616  NOTICE: Thread Timer start, auto delete: false
07:27:39 531.575073 T:1781527616   DEBUG: Thread Timer 1781527616 terminating

It happens at random and not after a specific action. It can be right when I enter a sub menu, when I'm scrolling through a list or just when I'm hanging out idle and Kodi is doing nothing.

The changelog is here: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2116095

Could it be because of the new support for multi-touch in linux? Disabling multi touch and mouse does not change anything.
Taking out the battery of my keyboard stops it though, but it has to be a software issue, since it works fine with previous builds.

The multi-touch commit does look most likely. @Milhouse can you revert https://github.com/popcornmix/xbmc/commit/00c37ad5876463e6b6612ae3207feb29fc5409ff for tonight's build just to confirm?

I don't know about a licence so I assume I don't have it.

log is here http://goo.gl/7e0Gx7

Thank you very much

No MPEG-2 licence means no HW decode of MPEG-2. That won't keep up at 1080p.
You can buy a licence here.

I just ordered it. Worth every penny.

What about the VC-1 licence?
(2015-11-24, 16:20)BubbleBobble Wrote: What about the VC-1 licence?

Depends if you have any VC-1 files. Raw BluRay's are a mixture of H.264, MPEG-2 and VC-1.
From here it looks like 77.3% of BluRays are H.264 (AVC), 17.2% are VC-1 and 5.5% are MPEG-2.

MPEG-2 is also used for DVDs and most broadcast TV.

So if you have a decent BluRay collection you want to play then get both.
If not you can wait and see if you hit a VC-1 files. The VC-1 is pretty cheap so might be worth getting just to be sure.
