Intel VAAPI howto with Leia v18 nightly based on Ubuntu 18.04 server
Heh, this is funny. Went back to your build. Disabled DTS and DTS-HD, meaning it's going to output 5.1 LPCM.

Started the movie. INSTANTLY locked up. Didn't even get past the black screen. But sound's still playing.

Did the instant lockup thing a few times, then now it's not doing that. It seems to be really random, which I know is a pain to try to diagnose. One time, it exited to a black screen with a white outline mouse cursor which then disappeared.

Yeah - it's a pain :-) cause you did not gather the Debug Log of the incident.

Which logfile do you want? Had it happen again with debug on.

kodi.log as always?

I think this is the relevant section.

Wrong section or doesn't show that anything happened??

Okay, then maybe this one. 1.3mb of errors can't be good.

And 7:45 is definitely the time when the picture froze, the screen went black, the mouse cursor showed briefly, then went black again. I waited for a bit pressing keys, and then forced the system to power off.

Cool - that gives an idea - btw. You cannot reproduce it with HEVC, right?

Or with mpeg2?

What I mean: Something hw accelerated != h264?

Haven't tried MPEG2, but I have to think if I even have any! I never bothered to rip many of my old DVDs, just doing Blu-rays. Don't have any HEVC files - didn't play well so I didn't bother. I'll see if I can find one, though.

I see something, but this might be hidden - will ask Master :-)

OK. I still struggle with some settings. Maybe it is because I have a 720p display? Or if I turn off tv and leave for a while, and turn it on again, then something is not detected properly? Kodi is always running. I thought I managed to fix this by setting HDMI3 as default Monitor instead of Default in System Settings.

First set of logs when Kodi restarts:

And second set of logs when trying to play LiveTV, test pattern video, and getting fullscreen to work with entering into System Settings menu. By only entering there it works. And TV was also turned off, and turned back.

Any ideas?

I discovered another issue... found an old interlaced MPEG2 file. Switching between deinterlacing modes eventually results in the picture freezing when going from software to VAAPI mode, usually on the 1st or 2nd time. The picture freezes, but sound continues (with intermittent gaps). Kodi remains responsive, however, and when I exit the settings window the lower UI pops up as normal, but a frozen version of the video settings window remains under that in a strange flickering state. I can still stop / restart the file fine, however it does not change the refresh rate back.

Hi Fritsch,

looks like passthrough is broken after Version of 22th September (Jarvis). With all newer Version i only get 5.1 PCM output. I will create a log later.
