Many thanks for detailed test of new build and test report. We are focused now on new decoder for AMLogic based devices, and yes, we start some tests regarding possible solutions for 3D frame packed playback at MX/S8xx/S9xx.

@lukcinek

We are happy to see that everything is fine at your side Smile

Any luck with 3D Frame Packed on the WeTek Core or the S905 Amlogic?

Thanks!

Currently we are focused on new AMLogic Decoder which is really important for future and support of all AMLogic devices, not only WeTek. As soon as there is something for test, we will push to our forum Beta test part.

Did a quick test on the Minix Neo U1 and ZidOOX5 with WeTek Kodi 16.0rc3 Jarvis build, both these boxes have the Amlogic S905 Chipset.

Full Bluray Rip ISO 1:1 copy

Audio:
Dolby TrueHD 5.1 = Pass
Dolby TrueHD 7.1 = Pass
Dolby ATMOS = Pass
DTS-HD MA 5.1 = Pass
DTS-HD MA 7.1 = Pass
DTS:X = Play in DTSHD MA 7.1 ( Still waiting for DTS:X update month, hopefully the beginning of next month)

No Video test because I am only interested in 3D MVC playback

I also notice that the WeTek Kodi had a different LOGO.

On the Wetek forum they said the price is 119 Euros, opening page says 99.

99 VAT excluded I guess

Yes Taxes is where the difference in pricing shows up.
I did actually state on Page #1 - 99 EURO / $108 USD was export pricing for shipping outside the EU.

This has already been discussed a few times now in posts starting here:

Hi,

is there a way to have a proper ambilight project for this little device? (something or exactly like this)

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, the Wetek Core does not handle Dolby True HD/DTS Master pass-thru audio?

I emailed Wetek core today and according to them :

Your request (9377) has been updated. To add additional comments, reply to this email.

Dear Mr. Vaughan
The Core is still not yet on Stock, but we're working very hard to have it as soon as possible.
Regarding the other question, WeTek Core supports by passtrough both Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master HD on our own WeTek Media Player applicacion (Kodi code)

So apparently now it does support HD audio pass thru?
Reply
Yes it does using the WeTek Jarvis mediaplayer, which is a fork of Kodi for the Core:

  • DD+ 5.1 = pass
  • DD+ 7.1 = pass
  • Dolby TrueHD 5.1 = pass
  • Dolby TrueHD 7.1 = pass
  • Dolby ATMOS = pass (don't have ATMOS AVR to be certain, but got THD 7.1)
  • DTS 5.1 = pass
  • DTS HRA 5.1 = pass
  • DTS HRA 7.1 = pass
  • DTS-HD MA 5.1 = pass
  • DTS-HD MA 7.1 = pass
  • DTS:X = pass (don't have DTS:X AVR to be certain, but got MA 7.1)
  • LPCM 5.1 = pass
  • LPCM 7.1 = pass
Video:
  • Excellent playback as detailed in my last review here
  • VC-1 29.970 (1080i) w/DTS-HD MA 5.1 = no audio, and kinda juddery video playback as noted by @wrxtasy and myself before (sample here)
  • MPEG2 4:2:2 = heavy green pixellated, audio okay. But, most media players can't play this fairly rare video type (sample here)
  • 23.976 w/DTS-HD MA = my projector confirms 23.976
  • 23.976 w/Dolby TrueHD = my projector says 24.000
The OpenELEC boot option is just terrific... talk about making it easy for all of us! Thanks WeTek.

I'll update my main review here in about a week as I'm off on a week-long work trip. But, overall grade now for WeTek Core is now a solid 'A'. At it's price-point, and the quality and support you get, you simply can't do better! Smile

Apologies, I should have first read from page 1, but it was a long way back. Big Grin I'm not the most technical guy, but if I buy the Wetek Core and I want the HD audio to work, do I need to update the unit with firmware first?

[The main reason I want this unit is for use with Kodi. I want to see the cover art and info, like on my main PC using Kodi. As far as overall speed and responsiveness goes, would you rate the Wetek core as very good? Can one do better, or is it much of a muchness with media players these days? I'm not very clued up with media players, but my friend has a 3 year old Mede8ter X250 and it's very sluggish in operation.

You mention Wetek Jarvis media player, but what does that mean? Will I retain full Kodi functionality?
