Release Rapier 9.6.6 for Kodi 16 Jarvis [DEPRECATED]
Thanks very much for Rapier Gade, I really love it. For my wimpy android device it is just the right combination of resources vs. features. I like that Aeon MD6 too, what a beaut, but too heavy and last I saw no Jarvis version. Anyhow, too much of a resource hog for me.
I do have an issue recently. I upgraded to 9.5.4, 99% great, but my problem is with icons/scaling/format. I use Super Favorites, boot right to it and use custom icons there, which takes me to default icons for the addons. Both sets of icons are now "messed up" in that they are 1. larger than before (not a big deal really). 2. The real problem is scaling of the pictures horizontally, they are chopped off on the right & left sides. I've been messing with one of my custom icons, it seems no matter what size/ratio I make it I get the same chopped off view. And again, this is happening with the default addon pics too. Petty, I can live with it, it's not so bad as to make them unusable, but perhaps you can point me in the right direction. Downgrade to 9.5.0 doesn't help.
In particular is there some ideal size or ratio I should make the custom icons? BTW, through blind luck I suppose, all was beautiful before the upgrade.
I'm going to puruse the skinning manual some more on the wiki today, at the least I may gain some knowledge.

Hi yuyuyak and welcome to the forums.

What aspect ratio is your wimpy Android device? Smile
While Rapier runs fine on most platforms, the skin is designed for 16X9. Some scaling of images and icons might occur on other aspect ratios. I know that from my iPad's.

It might be something I can look into and fix. But some screenshots will really be helpful to let me know exactly which sections of the skin you're talking about.

It turned out this had more to do with Super Favorites than Rapier. I finally realized it was SF that was "importing" the image, so reasoned it had to be the culprit and it was. Guess it caches those images somewhere, if you use the same image name it doesn't bother with what's saved on disk, pulls it out of it's hat. So that I can deal with, a little GIMP work and at least my custom images are ok, the default addon images are usable.
Oh, my android device isn't that wimpy, just a little memory challenged and I often run other things in parallel, so resource balancing is necessary. It's a mighty Odroid C1+ and I run with the big kids, 1920x1080. Not really android, I run linux.
YOU don't need to fix anything, just keep doing what you're doing. I think you did change the icon view icon size slightly which seemed to aggrevate this issue, but I've solved it now. I'll have to locate that SF cache, can probably make the default addons reload perhaps better.
Thank you for the welcome, have lurked for years but this is the 1st time I've felt stumped enough to post.
And my, aren't you busy, I'll have to get that 9.5.6 and see what trouble I can get into.
Thanks Gade

Will do. Really great you got things sorted out and found the reason for the issues Wink

Yeah, I changed the Icon View in 9.5.0 and might have changed the size at the same time.

Thanks Gade

That should update automatically and you should have it by now.
If automatic updates are on, both updates from the official repo (like v9.5.6) and updates from my development repo (like v9.5.4) should update/install automatically.

Cheers

I've been rocking rapier since 2013 or so, it's head and shoulders the best. I was a skin nomad until then. Tried them all, keep up the good work, please!

Hi,

I have been using Kodi (XBMC) for years but only used the default skin. Recently, I tried this skin and I have to say I love it. My system is still quick and responsive unlike some of the other heavy graphics.

A quick question though; is there a way to increase the size of icons showing next to movie/show list? Also, is there a way to change the colour of the "watched" icons? I think my aging poor eyes have a bit difficult time differentiating watched/unwatched icons.

Thank you.

Hi DJDJDJDJ.

Thanks so much for the kind words and system feedback - I really appreciate it. Smile

The watched/unwatched/quality icons in the lists vary a little in size in the different views. Try some other views and see if that suits you better (press left or up to the top menubar and click the View button).
Fx. list view has 3 different view styles: Normal / Expanded / Mixed. Press left or up to go to the top menubar and click the View Options button.

I have no current plans increasing the size or colour, but you can do it yourself editing the skin xml files.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers

Thank you Gade.

I tried different views but icon sizes remain the same.

Would you be able to point in right direction for this xml file?
