Yeah i knew it wasn't going to the same price as the first Play but €199 does seem a bit much

Not if you also want a tuner. If you don't need the built-in tuner then you'll probably want a WeTek Hub over any of the Play models. Unless you need SATA.

EDIT: just to be clear, I have no idea if these are the actual prices or not, but an ATSC tuner in the US is at least $40 - $50 USD, and that's just for a USB one. A network tuner is around $100 USD.

We are lucky in DVB-T parts of the world, old Sony Play TV Dual DVB-T tuner go for as little as $5 on Ebay. Wink

And DVB-T2 tuners can be had for less than €30 if you're in a DVB-T2 region - and that's a new tuner unopened from Amazon rather than a second hand one from eBay.

In the UK we have a mix of 5 or 6 DVB-T muxes (depends if you have a local mux or not) and 3 DVB-T2 muxes. This means it's entirely feasible to have a TV Headend set-up with a tuner dedicated to each mux (3x Play TV Dual DVB-T and 3 DVB-T2s) and guarantee you can watch and record any channel at any time without a clash Smile

How much do DVB-S tuners with a card slot go for?

You'd struggle to find many DVB-S tuners these days, DVB-S2 are pretty universal.

Best value DVB-S2 tuners I've found new are Quad DVB-S2 SAT>IP devices that can be found for <£150 which equates to <£40/tuner. They don't have integrated CI slots to accept a CAM, but many CAM schemes are implemented in software, meaning you just need a suitable card reader for your subscription card (which doesn't have to run on the SAT>IP tuner but can run on your PVR backend). Discussion of this is tricky as there are also nefarious reasons to do it, as well as perfectly legitimate ones. (It is also possible to boot some SAT>IP servers with custom firmware that adds additional functionality - https://github.com/perexg/satip-axe/tree/master/dist )

I picked up an Elgato 4Sat (ignore the built in transcoding and iOS/Android integration) and with a recent version of TV Headend it works pretty well. (Only basic Diseqc support though - so not good for multi satellite if you have more than 4 orbital slots)

If you need a USB DVB-S2 tuner then you're looking at around £60+/tuner for one without a CI slot. You can get a few USB models with CI slots integrated, but they are more common on PCI-E models for use in x86 PCs with full size expansion slots and decent PSUs.
