WIP Windows 3D MVC Bluray test builds
#1
Image
These test builds could possibly be unstable. Proceed with caution and always backup (wiki) your settings!

What is this:
  • These are test builds for anyone who would like to help with testing the 3D MVC (mkv, 3D-BluRay) decoding.
  • Make sure you have the latest driver for your video card installed and the most recent DirectX version. See Microsoft website for more details
The main aim of this thread is to help identify issue related to the Stereoscopic 3D feature and 3D MVC decoding.

How to help:

Please include in your post:
  • Say if this was also an issue in previous builds or not.
  • A full debug log (wiki) posted on xbmclogs.com or pastebin.com
  • Possible crashlogs uploaded for download. Make sure you have the correct .pdb file placed in the install folder
  • The build date (in the download URL or in system info on Kodi). Specify which one you tried.
  • Details about your system (OS, hardware specs, videocard, driver etc)
  • Steps needed to reproduce the issue (play a movie, go to a file list, use an add-on, etc)
  • The more details, the better.
  • You may also post that everything is working as expected so we known current state of this development. In this case also provide full info.

Where to download:
Specific 3D MVC test builds are listed below. Other files in the "test-builds" directory are unrelated to this testing.
Builds will be updated on regular bases. Make sure you always try the most current one listed below before reporting problems.

Windows:
  • September 19
  • please also download the .pdb file here, rename it to Kodi.pdb and place it alongside the Kodi.exe inside the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi). Re-download the correct file each time you are install another test build. This helps us to identify possible crashes.
  • For AMD/nVidia users: please download software implementation of MVC decoder libmfx32 and extract it to the installation folder (usually [/i]C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi).

Example post
Quote:
  • Hardware: Windows 7 64bit, NVIDIA GT275, driver-version 340.52
  • Debug Log: pastebin.com/xxxxxxxxxxx
  • Crashlog: Dropbox lin
  • Description: Video problems while playing back MKVfiles.
  • Screenshots: Dropbox link
  • How to reproduce: Playing back a MKV video file. I have provide a sample file for download.

Any irrelevant post will be removed without notice!

Stereoscopic 3D rendering:

Stereoscopic 3D rendering is only enabled on systems that have all the components that are stereoscopic 3D-capable. These components include 3D-capable display hardware, graphics hardware, peripherals, and software applications.

System requirements:

1. Windows 8 and later.
2. WDDM 1.2 video driver. (To check version of driver please run dxgiag on your PC and look at [i]Driver Model at the Display section.)
3. DirectX 10 capable and higher video hardware.
4. 3D-capable display.

Also you need enable checkbox Stereo 3D settings for all supported displays in Screen Resolution control panel, as shown here:

Useful tools:

To check that your system is Stereo 3D capable you can install Stereo 3D test application from Microsoft Store and run it.

Changes:

April 13
Fixed:
  • Fixed ghosting issue
  • Now Kodi force switch to 23.976 fps before switching to stereo 3D mode.
  • Updated to the latest Krypton branch.
Removed:
  • Experimental: support of smooth playback was removed.

April 7
Fixed:
  • Fixed addvanced settings, <usedisplaycontrolhwstereo> and <forcemodechangebeforestereo> don't require <adjustrefreshrate> section anymore.
  • Fixed decoding on some hardware which doesn't support hw decoding.
  • Fixed num of internal buffers which causes decoding error in some cases.
  • Fixed a performance issue in decoder.
  • Fixed rendering video after resize Kodi window.
  • Updated to the latest Krypton branch.

Added:
  • Experimental: support of smooth playback.
  • PR#9542 which solves issue with "ghosting" in some cases.

Known issues:
  • The latest Krypton may causes an error: python27.dll not found.
March 21
Fixed:
  • Fixed pixellation on some BluRays
  • Fixed crash when Kodi unable to switch to stereo 3D mode.

Added:
  • Advanced setting <usedisplaycontrolhwstereo> (default disabled). If enabled Kodi will switch on/off 3D mode on system level. This may help NVIDIA users and switching off stereo 3D mode in full screen window.
    Code:
    <video>
      <usedisplaycontrolhwstereo>true</usedisplaycontrolhwstereo>
    </video>
  • Advanced setting <forcemodechangebeforestereo> (default disabled). If enabled Kodi will force switch to 1080p23 mode before stereo 3D mode. May helps on some devices.
    Code:
    <video>
      <forcemodechangebeforestereo>true</forcemodechangebeforestereo>
    </video>

March 21
  • Forcing change resolution to 1080p23 before switching to stereoscopic 3D mode. This may fix an issue when switching to S3D mode is denied by driver.
  • Possible fix for switching back to monoscopic mode when use full screen window.
  • Now Kodi properly handle BluRays where exteded view is a left eye view.
  • Other fixes and improvements from Krypton branch.

The error was related to not having a demuxer from memory. Will try to recreate when I get a chance later.
Yes it is, but the latest drivers supports Intel Media SDK v.1.7, but Kodi requires v1.8. You can download latest Intel Media SDK from intel.com site and Kodi will use software decoding, your CPU more what enough to decode mvc.

Installed 2014 R2.

Same error as before

Does that help? Previously no issue on Isengard (albeit Kodi defaulted to playing in 2d). It plays fine using VCD and PowerDVD on my main HTPC.

Install latest Intel Media SDK (IIRC the latest is 2016.01)

Newest sdk won't install for me.... Only compatible with generation after my CPU.... Any other method? Is there 2015 version?

Try download this https://www.dropbox.com/s/xka0cd3oz79bzf...v1.7z?dl=0 and extract to Kodi directory.

Any thoughts?
#7
I have no idea.
#8
You could try to mount the iso locally to rule out fs issues
#9
Ok I can report some scenarios and the results.

Playing ISO directly in kodi - not working for me
Mounting iso and hitting play - not working
Navigating to the bdmv manually - not working
Navigating to the playlist manually - plays in 2D and no option to switch to 3D (uses h264 decoder not mvc)
Navigating to the ssif manually - working*

*the audio pass through although working fine reports 0 channels on the codec info (receiver picks up all channels fine. The processor is really struggling to play it and there is obvious stuttering and missed frames however these don't seem to be reported back to Kodi by the mvc decoder. The mvc decoder is still used if you select monoscopic / 2D option (which would be fine if the processor was up to the task I suppose.
The high CPU usage would seem to indicate the hardware acceleration feature isn't being used I assume?
#10
1. In next version 3dbd will work properly.
2. Decoder cannot be changed on the fly when stereo mode was changed. Decoder can be disabled in the Settings -> Video -> Acceleration.
3. Yes, high CPU usage indicates software decoding.
#11
This will only ever be an intel solution, I assume? (Or will the software decoding work with an AMD CPU?)

Looking for an excuse to upgrade my main HTPC anyway!
#12
I wonder that too, i have an amd A6, wonderif thats powerful enough

Yes, AMD drivers doesn't support Intel MSDK, so on ADM GPU software decoding will work.

I didn't test, but I think Core-i3 or similar from AMD should be enough for softweare decoding MVC.
#14
my notebook has an i5 with 2,4 GHz and a legacy AMD HD GPU and it worked for me. CPU was maxed out ofc
#15
i5 has it's own gpu. but it requires a connected display to use hardware decoding.
