Xiaomi 4K HDR 'Mi Box' (Android TV set-top box)

If that does not help, contact the store that sold you that box. This is not the official support site for Xiaomi hardware.

This problem appeared after the update, I doubt that this is hardware

Change resolution and color format in settings for output. Maybe it is on auto mode and selected an incompatible format.

My question is, passthrough audio to receiver, like dts-hd or atmos were never compatible or just broken by xiaomi's oreo firmware? are there any other recommended boxes besides the nvidia shield for having hd audio passthrough ?
 Hi,

I am new here too. I got the Mi Box 3 a few days ago and it self-updated to Oreo version 2396. I'll try to answer your questions.

Here's the bad news:
  1. for some reason, when playing back a 1080p or 4k movie from a USB drive, the audio will randomly cut out for a second. This may happen twice during a 1.5 hour movie or four times. I can replay the entire file and the audio drops will not occur in the same place. Sometimes, there will be a soft burst of audio static for no apparent reason. I know it's not a file problem because the file plays perfectly on my HTPC with no audio static or audio drops;
  2. there is no auto frame rate switching which is bad when playing a movie with a 23.976 or 24 FPS rate while the desktop is set to 2160p/60. This will cause dropped frames or stuttering even in Kodi with the frame change option enabled. I notice it while others may not; and
  3. there was a bit of stuttering in Netflix 4k but I didn't notice many instances of frame drops; however, that may have been a function of the show I was watching.

Here's the good news:
  1. 1080 and 4k files from my USB drive look pretty good;
  2. using Kodi Leia 18 RC and my 5.1 system, I see TrueHD and DTS-HD MA on my receiver's display panel. I assume it will pass the meta data for Atmos and DTS-X as well but I don't know for sure since I don't have an Atmos-compatible system;
  3. I get Netflix 4k HDR with no problem; and
  4. no audio drop outs when using Netflix at 4k with DD+ 5.1.

Xiaomi is supposedly working on auto frame rate switching which would eliminate the stuttering and, hopefully, audio drops.

I hope the information I have included is helpful.
 can you please share your kodi settings.. and mi box audio settings. i can not seem to get dts hd and true hd out of my mi box s. using yamaha 681 receiver which supports atmos too .

Did anyone have luck with write to external HDD (not formatted as internal storage) with Android 8?
With Android 6 Kodi was able to write to "Android/data/" but it don't.
I was able to write only to fat32 partition but this is not a working option because of limitations of fat32.

Updated: Also for a test I formated HDD as internal storage but I can not see how to save files to it :-(

Thank you.
Yeah, I have the same problem, Kodi Krypton cannot write to external NTFS drive (to...hdd/Android/data/org.xmbc.kodi) after oreo update. Anyone has an idea?
Also, since the SPDIF option is missing in oreo settings, I get sound through both optical and HDMI outputs and need to mute my TV to listen to optical-connected receiver.
Anyway, thanks to the experts such as wrxtasy for all the great work, you are amazing.

I used the search function quite a bit and couldn't really find an answer and read a bunch, but I did not read 168 pages of this thread.  Either I read the information and didn't understand or I couldn't find it using the search function.  Anyway, from what I can tell, if you upgrade to the Oreo, you lose SPDIF (optical , S/PDIF, TOSLINK; i.e., F05 or EIAJ optical -- adding terms for search engines).  Couldn't find an answer on Nougat and SPDIF.

My receiver does not have HDMI and only has optical.  Do you still get optical, if you use Marshmallow?  Do you get 5.1 Dolby Digital through the optical with Marshmallow?

Can you get TrueHD or DTS-HD with other playback apps on the Mi Box?

Tried different HDMI cables? Tried different inputs on the receiver?

This is a Kodi forum, we really don't care about "other" Apps...

IEC61937 - 5.1 / 7.1 AC3, EAC3, DTS, DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD - Kodi Leia audio passthrough works...
LOG: https://paste.kodi.tv/uwufequbeb

Download Kodi Leia RC3 from the Kodi nightly Master mirror servers:
https://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/android/arm/master/

Install with the X-Plore App and a USB stick

Android Settings > Sound > Dynamic Range Control > OFF
Sound output > Auto
DTS Sounds > 0

Kodi Leia Audio Settings > Advanced or Master
> Reset above Settings to default (down the bottom)
> then tick the Passthrough options.

Make sure an HDMI connected audio receiver is switched on before starting the Mi Box and Kodi.

I have also tried NTFS, exFAT and FAT32, and only FAT32 works. Kodi can access and read files from other partitions, but can only write to FAT32 Android/data/... since the latest Oreo Mi box update, which sucks.

I'm eyeing on this but it seems it has a lot of issue.
