Philips 6501 - Passthrough problems
#1
Hi,

I've got the problem with Kodi v16 Jarvis on Philips 6501. When I try to enable passthrough option I hear only the really noise clicking on my external speakers or tv speakers (when i choose so). It doesn't matter it's dts or dolby digital audio. I don't have this problems using MX Player or Philips player. That's why I must confirm that connection using optical audio cable and TV settings are correct. Is there anyone having the same problems? Is there any Kodi's options I can't see and I need to choose?

Thank you very much for your response.

I don't know how different philips is from sony but DTS never worked for me with v16 (it does with SPMC that is based on v16) but for DD try to enable transcoding also. And disable DTS.
Anyway, if you know how to sideload an apk, try v17. DD wom't work at all so leave it disabled but DTS works and and that noise is almost gone. It happened to me only once while with v16 it was coming back quite often just like that, without any change in settings.

I wasn't able to make it work with kodi v16 included all advices. I've installed SPMC and with proper settings of both audio and video everything is just fine. I haven't heard about this app. I'm still waiting for updates of Kodi to make it better for Philips than it's right now.

I have one question regarding that tv and SPMC. Is it allowing to switch refresh rate, whn starting playback?
Does it use hardware acceleration whith SPMC (hit "o" key while playback), maybe u can attach some screenshots/pic. Would be really great Smile I'm planning to buy exactly that TV Smile
Thanks a lot Smile

Sorry, but i am not so good at this stuff to help you. Moreover, I don't have any opportunities to give you any photos.
However, i need to say that i have new problem with spmc. I have problems with playing movies without audio in ac3 (in aac for example). Transcoding doesn't work properly with this tv and it gives clicking noise.

If this: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/andro...bi-v7a.apk does not work - no future build of kodi will work as your manufacturer does not care about standards. As kodi has no android maintainer, we will only support standard AudioTrack for the future.

To see what is supported, check the API: https://developer.android.com/reference/...CODING_AC3

< v21: nothing
with v21: AC3, EAC3 (most firmware broken, especially firetv)
with >= v23: dts, dts-hd (not on nexus) <- tested on shield

special on shield: truehd, which is not (!) in the AudioTrack standard
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Is there any chance to add this build to google play because it's the problem with installing apps in Philips from unknown sources?

I pushed that code to master yesterdays - so all nightlies starting from today (?) will have that code.

Interpol92, could you please post your audio settings of SPMC? I own a Philips 55PUS8601 and also with SPMC I don't succeed to make DD and/or DTS work. Very curious how to make it work :-)

Thanks!

Raverke, he is wrong. SPMC is able to decode AC3 / DTS but it won't send AC3 / DTS to the digital outputs.
In other words, you'll not get the 6 channel bitstream in your receiver/soundbar.
I also have the 55PUS8601 and just verified it...

In the current Play Store krypton beta it also fails: http://paste.ubuntu.com/23132804/ see line 1497: Audio Passthrough Failed
It's a bit unfortunate that the verbose audio debug log is a bit limited with info on the fail root cause.

I'm looking forward to the next beta... because AC3 works fine in the build by fritsch! Hurray Smile
You may be able to install it with AnExplorer (backup and uninstall Kodi first).

FYI, I'm tracking Audio PT status in http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=257713

EDIT: the fritsch build supports some files with AC3 audio, but not all of them.
Logs: http://paste.ubuntu.com/23133517/ search for '48000, pass-through'
AC3 success at lines 240, 280, 488, 522
AC3 failed at lines 112, 175, 560

Stefaang,

I'm already following your tracking since I own my 8601 (march).
Last months I've set it on hold because Philips had released some very buggy softwareversions. I was fed up with that stupid Philips software. I had the intention to sell this TV if the next update wasn't a good one.
Philips must have heard it, because the last available in Belgium is a 95% bug free one. (Remote control's keyboard stays on qwerty when you set-up azerty. But I can live with that).

Till today I have no Android app on that tv what delivers DD or DTS sound to my receiver. I was wondering if the Android system in the TV was even capable to bring out some DD or DTS sounds to my receiver.

Maybe I have to try the fritsch build like you did. Where can I download it?

Typical broken firmware - throw that TV away, if you really want to use it in a sane way - this is not acceptable. Besides that - not much to tell: was not a Debug Log

Not before there's a reasonably priced reliable OLED tv.
If it definitely goes wrong with my Philips' android apps, I can connect an Android TV box to it. But it must be fine if it works one day. And like I've said, since the last firmware-update, features, picture and sound are working very well. Just the DD/DTS issue in Kodi has to be fixed.

Your firmware does not support dts as it is v22 only. For ac3 you see that opening fails, which is again a firmware issue. Nothing to fix from kodi side.
