NEXTPVR Is Buggy and Don't work Properly

Pardon the late reply. I did some leg work which took some time. Ok first, it does produce 5 or 6 TS video files that are about 6:40 minutes each that are around 600-700 MB each. When I stop the channel they generally get deleted. I didn't know that. However many times they don't get deleted after stopping live tv (stopping the feed). In the temp directory, intead of just having 5-6 files it will continue making files. For example, this morning I got up to watch the news for a few minutes. After I stopped watching, the temp directory is filling up the folder now as I type this with the same channel making TS files.SCREENSHOT

So basically instead of deleting those 5 or 6 files when you stop watching a channel, it will continue on and make more files of that previously closed channel. Make sense? Instead of wasting your time, Perhaps I should just uninstall Kodi and reinstall. I'm just afraid to do so because I'm going to lose my channel lineup in my N***PVR epg guide.

UPDATE EDIT: A couple of hours have gone by and it's still making these files even though I am not using Kodi at all. What's funnny is I closed Kodi (running Window 7) and for some reason something is still making these TS files in the temp
directory even though Kodi is closed.
I'm unable to reproduce this here. Can you repeat the problem, then zip up the NextPVR log directory and supply the zip? I'll see if I can find the cause in your log files.

There is a regular and common enough complaint that Kodi timeshiiting mode does not stop recording and the few logs that users submitted indicate that there is a bug on the server side but there is not enough information to show a reproducible trigger. My personal experience was that you need to restart the regarding service to stop the recording. To get to the bottom of the problem of the issue simply reporting it without logs is pretty much useless.

If you turn off timeshifting you won't have this problem.

How are you stopping livetv?

I click on the stop icon in the media GUI control menu. I have the default skin I think that comes with 17.1 so it's on the bottom left. I will disable the time shift and see if the problem continues. I remember this function giving people grief in previous versions of KODI. It's too bad I can't use time shift because it's nice to be able to pause, rewind, and skip around on the the channel.

The only big problem for me is the TEMP directory that gets filled up with all of these TS files. Is there a Windows 7 command that can automatically delete files in a directory once it's reached a certain megabyte size?

I have the same problem: After stopping LiveTV in Kodi (17.1) the NextPVR-Service doesn't stop the recording in most cases, producing lots of ts-files in the temp-directory. Restarting the NextPVR-Service stops the "recording". It seems, that the stop command of Kodi is not delivered successfull to the NextPVR-Service. Would be nice, if this problem could be fixed. If I can help with log files or anything else, please ask.

It should be able to be fixed once the problem is identified. Please upload your NextPVR logs and Kodi debug log as soon as you see the problem happening.

This is hopefully relevant as I've just experienced Kodi hanging whilst watching Live TV using nextPVR as backend.

Comparing the log files reveals something interesting:

Updating the EPG killed the stream and caused Kodi to hang. So the questions are:

  1. Can kodi fail more gracefully in this situation?
  2. Can NextPVR defer EPG update until a time it's not streaming?
  3. Or, can NextPVR utilise the second of the two tuners I have to perform the additional task?

Edit: Just looked at my NextPVR settings:

Update DVB EPG during live tv is turned off, yet this is not respected for some reason. Bug?

Software versions:
  • Kodi 17.1
  • NextPVR 3.9.2 (161119)
  • NextPVR/Kodi Frontend 2.4.11
