4K HDR Streaming Box
#1
Hey,

it's all very confusing with these boxes. What i want:
  • Clean Kodi, means LibreELEC. No Android if possible
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Dynamic Refresh Rate switching
  • 4k
  • HDR10
  • HD Audio
  • Get the Xiaomi BT Remote to work
NOT NEEDED is official Netflix, Amazon, 3D...

Im not new at all to this topic. I owned a Zidoo X9S (not playing my files outside of specifications), Odroid C2 (very good, bot not HDR capable) and lastly a Xiaomi Mi Box (no Refresh Rate Switching and no Gigabit..)
Searching for such a box will get me to the MINIX U9-H. Newest Developments of LibreELEC for S912 show that it is possible to make all my wishes come true.

I just want to hear your opinion on this topic, thanks in advance!

An answer is already sitting in the existing Budget AMLogic S905/S905X/S912 Media Player Options - Post #1318

Some AMLogic S912 boxes even have faster DDR4 RAM

Not all AML S912 boxes come with Gigabit Ethernet - you have to do careful pre purchase research yourself.

Not quite if you consider long term reliability, heat management and WiFi performance on a box that comes with GigaE - the MINIX U9 will beat any AML S912 box on the market simply because those U9's are engineered properly with higher quality internal components.

The chipset heat sink in the MINIX U1 / U9 is massive vs all other AMLogic boxes on the market. Click HERE for Internal teardown.

Yes the Xiaomi Mi Box BT remote's can be made to work with ALL OSMC / LibreELEC boxes currently in use:

I don't have one personally but the Vero4k is looking better and better everyday. It doesn't have gigabit ethernet but I don't think it is a deal breaker unless you plan to play a lot of 4K test clips. I may pick one up to test as seems MVC 3D is looking to be a reality soon. It is well supported by OSMC which makes it even more attractive.

i assume still half res, but MVC playback works. 3D TV is gone to the bedroom so i didnt really test for long, my Main TV isnt 3D.

1000m lan for me was a deal breaker, UHD discs are network hogs.

Are commercial UHD blurays really limited by 100m ethernet though? The spec tops out at 120Mbps but I haven't seen a remux over 60Mbps yet.

I've seen a recent UHD bluray remux at 90+ Mbps

most hit bitrates that high at some point in the movies, not sure if its essential, but my TV itself only has 100M LAN and it buffers to the point of unable to watch.

all we need now is Kodi to update libbluray so we can get UHD iso support, UHD films that have their video broken into different m2ts files are unwatchable(ie. the Martian) because Kodi doesnt know what to do with the disc file format, no playlists work, you need to manually start playback on the m2ts files in the STREAM folder.

John Wick 2 UHD disc hits 90+ Mbps I believe.

@ dukester, is this the box you have? Wonder if any/most S912 boxes would work?
