I got mine from ebay, but it's the 150 xt from minibox with this PSU http://www.mini-box.com/12v-12-5A-AC-DC-Power-Adapter

I've not tested it with my older 120

So, is the HD-Audio passthrough working for the model NUC7PJYH?

Is there a specific version of Libreelec/KODI I need to use to get it to work?
Reply
for get better performance use custom xorg.conf Wink

just put file called xorg.conf to /storage/.conf/xorg.conf
with this inside

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver      "modesetting"
 EndSection

Yes, it works fine. You need to use the Alpha Version 9.0 from LibreELEC, since the stable version does not support the hardware from the NUC.

Thanks for quick reply!

Does this version also supports HDR? (That is the hardware does it ofc)

My last test did not confirm HDR support.

there is no HDR at Linux right now - still long way - anyway if you have pretty fresh/new TV always you can expose your media files from kodi over uPNP/DLAN to TV, and play native at TV.

If you would like to have also HDR the Nvidia Shield is the best choice IMO.

To use the standard nvidia shield interface or to install LE onto it?

Seems it has support for the HD formats, HDR and 4k, also it seems very popular. Any downsides with it?

How is the audio passthrough working with the new Intel gemini lake? I know it was a lot of problem with the previous version. Is the HD formats working now directly in LE?

I think the AMLogic S912 and Apple TV 4K are also worth considering (the latter runs MrMC - a fork of Kodi that is designed to be AppStore friendly) The AMLogic S905X (as used in Vero 4K and lots of no-name boxes) is also interesting - but there are question marks over whether it is a great fit for HDR as it appears to have to dither 10-bit to 8-bit at one point in its playback chain.

The Shield TV still has issues related to Rec 709/Rec 2020 gamut handling, as it outputs a fixed Rec 2020 or Rec 709 gamut HDMI signal.  The conversion of 709 to 2020 is not perfect, and it doesn't gamut switch as the Apple TV 4k and S912 platforms do.  There are also issues related to network buffering that are cropping up for high bitrate UHD rips it seems.

If you want HDR out-of-the-box support in Kodi - Intel/AMD x86/x64 platforms are not a good fit.  You have to run Windows (no current HDR Linux support) and even then you need to use external player solutions and run the right flavour of Core-i series chip (or have the right video card)

Yes, it looks like that x64 and Windows is the only way if you don't want to compromise or sacrifice. The new "cheaper" AMD APUs like 2200GE and 200GE with Vega IGPs and native HDMI 2.0a-> 4K/HDR/VP9 (and possibly proper 3D MVC) support are also worth to mention. Oh, and don't forget this one: Cannon Lake NUC possibly coming with AMD IGP. -> Would be nice to see Intel going this way with their nextgen cheaper CPUs as well. But till they follow the "trend" which makes them cut the HDR on the Gemini, the chances are rather...

I'm using  j5005-ITX mb with Ubuntu 18.04 and having problems with hw video acceleration.
MPV and VLC are indicating the following error:

Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_i965.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

UPDATE:
solved this problem with:
cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/vdpau/
sudo ln -s libvdpau_va_gl.so.1 libvdpau_i965.so.1

BUT seems that  that VDPAU does not support this card, openGL support works slow.
VA-API works better.
