Brightness off just with 4K videos
#1
Hello,
this has happened for at least six months, before I got Kodi 18, but with my 4K videos I have it seems way too bright!  I think it's the video decoder as it seems just fine with, say a 1080p video file(I THINK it uses a different decoder for the different files).  I am getting both of these off a USB drive I have plugged in.  Video seems to play fine EXCEPT the brightness in the 4K file.  It doesn't seem to be not enough power to handle it, just the brightness is off!!  I think I tried adjusting the colors/brightness a while ago and COULD NOT get them correct AT ALL!!  This is using whatever default player Kodi 18 has.  HELP please!!! Post your Debug Log. Nobody even knows which platform you are running.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

It has similar hardware to this:

Let me know if there's more; THANKS!!! Smile

Your box does not do proper tone mapping when outputting to a non HDR screen. You can disable Mediacodec-Surface and Mediacodec ... but then probably the box is too slow to play 4K.

Well, OK.  I was looking for a fix but thanks!  It seems to handle 4k fine, just not the brightness!!  BUT now I have a discrepancy as a 4k I just tried was good with the brightness!!  So I dunno!!

This is probably a HDR issue not a resolution issue

4K is just the resolution, but if some of your 4k content is HDR and some not then you will likely see different behavour
