3. DVDFab has really found a way to integrate it ?

We found the answer, or at least answered it as far as possible.

Is it HDR10 with only DV logo = no
Is it better like HDR10 = yes

So if you are dependent on single layer DV, you have an option to create a very similar experience afterwards.

If the Kodi team found a way to use the Nvidia Shield decoder for single layer DV, it would be great. @Hitcher 

We can forget dual layer DV. I think there is no "legal" way to make this playable.

I don't think DV is currently possible on Kodi even on Shield, but Plex or MX player seem to be able to play the TS with DV, not yet the mkv. The tool used to create that TS is tsMuxeR. There are still some issues regarding HD or Atmos audio but workarounds for that exist, too.

I don't own a shield so I cannot test it myself but I think with the recent advances in this regard I'd be really interested, ideally a S922X-J box running something like Coreelec but Android+Kodi on Shield would be a nice first step.

The just updated version of MakeMKV claims to merge dual layer DV into a single layer (and retain HD Audio) all within the program with essentially 1 click conversion if I read things correctly. But there are no players supporting it yet to actually confirm.

If one of the amazing developers could chime in, we are all super excited about SL Dolby Vision support as plex on the 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro already supports it and we all know Kodi is so far superior to Plex. Well, Dolby Vision support on MKV is something going to happen soon, the issue is already on matroska-specification's GitHub (https://github.com/cellar-wg/matroska-sp...issues/373) and there is an interesting conversation between some of the most important guys on the MKV scene.

The hardest part, which was find a way to combine the layers is done, and MakeMKV has already implemented it and MKVToolNix implementation is also on the way, they are waiting to make it more offical once discussions with mastroska guys finish and they find the most compatible way to do it.

Plex for Android also accepted the feature request, so it's probably a matter of time too.

Finally Kodi, which we all love, I don't know what kind of efforts are needed on the videoplayer part to maybe "passtrough?" the stream. Android supports Dolby Vision on hardware which also support it, I guess there is no need to any special decoding and probably is not a breaking change feature or something specially complext to do for that specific system, but which worries me from our old mate Kodi is it usually take its time to include those kind of features and given that Kodi has very long mayor release windows, wait to an eventual support on Kodi 20 sounds like we are going to wait years, and that's sad.

I really hope this time it can be different and we can enjoy on Kodi 19.

Looks like there is some job already done but for inputstream add-ons in this merged issue https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/17406 and btw it says "DV decoder implementation is done in the second commit, for android only", not sure what that means in terms of have DV support not only for those add-ons (to support DV on netflix addons and similar, I guess).

Hello Everyone!

So now with the new nVidia Shield 2019 (Pro), nVidia has finally added support for DolbyVision. Hurray! 

Does this mean that Kodi can now support DV or, better said, it would be possible to add this support to Kodi?
What kind of files would it then support? 
4K/UHD-Bluray-ISOs? 
4K/UHD-Bluray Folders?
M2TS-Files?

Would it be able to support all DV Profiles?

So MKVs don't officially support DV, but you can save both video tracks within the MKV-File.
Would KODI then be able to combine both streams and produce a DV-Output stream? 

I am currently using an nVidia Shield 2017 and basically would upgrade to 2019 primarily for the DV support.
Hope you can answer this question at this point in time.

That implementation is not yet agreed with the people who look after the mkv standard, so any mkv's made with that version of makemkv may not be compatible with the official standard when published.

That's correct, but that's not the thing, the matroska standard is about to decide, once they do, which will be very very soon, two of the most popular mkv remuxers software, which authors are indeed also involved in the decision, will be ready to make definetive versions. What I would like to know is if will be easy to make Kodi play those DV mkv using its internal player and when? To be honest, the problem with Plex on Android is its serious memory leaks. Kodi has demonstrated its rock solid operation and perfomance. Just an example, try to reproduce the 120 Mbps 4K HDR file of the famous testfiles of Jellyfish (http://jell.yfish.us/) with Plex on Android and with Kodi and see the difference.

It would be great if we could expect DV MKV support at least for Kodi 19, because if you leave it for Kodi 20 that means years waiting.

Once any changes are official then there's a good chance ffmpeg will add support, then once ffmpeg has added support it'll be easier for Kodi to look at adding support.

Nothing can play it back tho even with mp4/ts kodi19 can only play profile 5
