Android 2019 - Amazon Fire TV Cube - AMLogic S922Z
Has anyone tried to use an USB Ethernet Adapter for 4K high bitrate videos?
The same USB3.0 adapter I have used with Fire TV Stick 4k (No issues there) - with the new Cube the results are bad (3.5-5MB/s so the videos are buffering, stuttering or even pausing a lot).

What USB3.0 adapter are you using currently?

Those Anker adapters use a RealTek RTL8153 chipset - and I suspect Amazon have not compiled their underlying Linux Kernel with the required Config options to support it. Hit up Amazon technical support if you can and inform them about the problem.

You would find adapters like the Ugreen USB3 > GigaE adapters use an ASIX AX88772 chipset which is know to work with AMLogic ARM based devices.

I suspect this widely compatible Cable Matters USB > Ethernet adapter also has an ASIX chipset in it:

The AmazonBasics USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter uses the ASIX AX88179 chipset which is the most compatible USB gigabit chipset for use with Android based devices like the Fire TV.  The RTL8153 chipset used in the Anker adapter works with some Android devices but not all.  The Fire TV Stick 4K and the 2nd gen Fire TV Cube use different versions of Fire TV OS, one based on Android TV 7.0 and the other based on Android TV 9.0, so its possible that they don't support the same external devices.  The ASIX chipset adapters work with all versions of the Android TV and Fire TV OS so they are your best bet.

Thank you for the detailed answers.
At the moment I have both the Anker and the original boxed Ethernet adapter - both behaves like 10/100 adapters (so the Anker works, just slower than I'd expect and than it was working with the Fire TV stick 4k).
Could be that Amazon would fix this in a later Fire TV Cube firmware release.
That's the single (not too disturbing) issue, at the moment, with the Cube 2019. I have it just since Friday so I'll use it longer before drawing a conclusion.

Is the fire cube USB port 2.0 or 3.0? Anybody know?

Might be just a lame USB 2.0, still some reviewer saw the Ethernet transfer speed ~160 Mbps (of course, not using the 10/100 Mbps included adapter)

"Ethernet

VPN On: IPVanish VPN not working when connected to Ethernet on new Fire TV Cube.

VPN Off: 166.19 Mpbs download & 43.13 Mbps upload"

That’s bad.

Even with a 2.0 port and a gigabit adapter, you can theoretically get upto 480 Mbps though.

I consistently see 320-330 Mbps down on a Fire TV Stick 4K with a Ugreen USB 3.0 ethernet adapter on my gigabit network connection, the 2nd gen Fire TV Cube should see similar if not better results.  Other USB 3.0 network adapters with the same ASIX AX88179 chipset should see similar performance.  Here are a few that are sold on Amazon.com, regional availability may differ.

Wow, don't know what happened.
I tested again and it seems to be 210 Mbps (my internet connection is 200 Mbps) so it's awesome and as expected / or as it was with the Fire TV stick 4k.

Did Amazon read my complaint and fixed the problem "overnight"? Don't know, but they have this customer obsession / customer centric approach.

Today the high bitrate videos are working again super fine. I'm relaxed now Wink, anyway I use them just as tests, normally I just stream Prime Video, Disney+, Netflix.

Me again with some issues from this evening:
- Kodi 18.7 Leia has audio problems on the new Cube (it's actually really picky on audio formats, unexpected)
- AAC3 with or without passthrough doesn't work (no audio, DD+ is shown on the receiver)
- some videos with Dolby Digital audio do not have sound at all, but some do
- Dolby True HD is decoded to (L)PCM but not always

No audio issues in any other app (Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+)

Tried to used the Kodi 18.6 (which worked flawlessly on the Fire TV stick 4k) but couldn't Install it over the 18.7 for some reason.

For now you have issues with your Cube. Cause without a Debug Log, it will stay exactly your issue.

18.7 was pulled of store, cause of issues with Video. Zero audio changes in 18.7, though in comparison to 18.6.

In short: If you need help, provide a Debug Log.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Just one 4k Trailer with AC3 Audio No audio (was working fine with Fire TV stick 4k) - both with passthrough or without

Contains the first log + another attempt to play a demo file.
No audio for both
