Android 2019 - Amazon Fire TV Cube - AMLogic S922Z
In fact, it fails to open 6 channel layout, which sucks.

How is your setup connected? And what does your AVR support?

Thank you!
My receiver (Yamaha v485) suports anything (except Atmos / DTS X).
I realized that any video could be played with sound - but some work just with Passthrough, some just without... Never had this issue before (with several Fire TV / Stick / 4K)

Okay, please try the following:

Set number of speakers to 2.0
Enable AC3
Enable Dolby Transcoding

Does this testfile work now? I fear some ancient AMLogic bug :-)

Well I was already playing in the area: with the Output Configuration + 5.1/7.1 + Allow Passthrough or not

The results are:
5.1 + Fixed - works! PCM 5.1
7.1 + Fixed - works! DD+ 2.0!
2.0 + Fixed - the Passthrough section is empty (Fixed does that?) - DD+ 2.0
2.0 + Best match (Dolby Transcoding) - DD 5.1 (as the file)
With Optimized or Best match + 5.1/7.1 this test file plays without audio.

I want to downgrade to Kodi 18.6, is it doable? Will it fix anything?

New test results:
Fixed + limit on 44.1 / or 96 kHz or more - works
Fixed + 48 Khz doesn't output audio

All other options except "Fixed" do not have the Limit Sampling rate (kHz) option - do not work

OK, a separate post for the good things I observed so far:
- the colors really pop up on my Sony 65XF9005 TV
- the HDR / Dolby Vision seems brighter
(Both in comparison to my Fire TV stick 4k, will find time This weekend just to compare these side by side)

With an issue: the 8!? microphones do not work as well as expected.
Funny: Once, my son's Echo Dot 2 was picking my loud enough voice saying "Alexa" command and the Cube didn't!
The Echo dot 2 was in my son's room ~5m away!

If you set kodi to "Fixed" passthrough won't work at all as kodi disables it entirely.
18.7 has several flaws in video handling, they should be fixed in the current Leia nightly.

Does your May 28th fritschfiretv build include these video playback fixes?

I'm back with some more findings:
- the above mention about colors "popping up" more than on the Fire TV 4k is tested and true!
The Amazon fire TV team messed up (?) the colors for 12 bits (for 10 bits it's pale in comparison, but looks a bit washed up, less natural) while there was no difference on the Fire TV stick 4k and the same screen (Sony 65XF9005) for the Cube the 12bits come with a very sweet (like too sweet) color shift (faces look a bit more pinkish, reds are visibly exagerated) etc. - so for now I'll keep 12 bits but I removed all other boost of colors from the TV.

Anyone having issues with 10/12 bit on the Fire TV Cube ?

My HTPC died a few days ago - it had perfect 12bit output out of a AMD APU with the KODI Windows API HDR edition

I decided to buy Fire TV Cube as  a replacement but it never outputs anything but 8bit connected to a LG CX Oled. Deep color is enabled on the HDMI port.

Cables are HDMI 2.0 certified. Source file is HDR

Thanks! Smile

All AMLogic chipsets running the Android OS will suffer from this because what is needed it's Linux Kernel bug busting modifications and also AMLogic Specific Kodi patches - and all of them are found in the Linux CoreELEC (& OSMC) Kodi. (@peak3d and AMLogic fixed this years ago now)

However having said that the powerful AMLogic S922Z with it's 6 Core CPU package the Cube has allows CPU Software decoding of pretty much anything 1080p including VC-1.
You use Kodi Leia's decodefilter.xml (click) to filter out VC-1 and other problem codecs that Android has troubles with like mpeg4 -->> for Software decoding.
