Hello @RobbieGibson

Thanks for your contributions on the wiki!!

Can you be aware of this work that is currently being carried out... https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=355868

Most pages have an Updated version which should match the current stable release of Kodi. It is located in the top right corner of the page as shown in the image.
As a guide, if the page is already updated to v18, it is has an extremely low priority for re-writing and we would prefer it not to be rewritten mid release (but editing to fix errors is ok). It is more important to update older pages that have an Update Version from a previous release.

Some of your edits I will have to revert or fix, and I see you have fixed a couple already. Be aware that when changing section headings or removing transclusion code you will break any other page that links to it. I have already fixed one, but I think there is another one that I have to find again.

I understand that you want Kodi GUI terminology to match wiki terminology (and I completely agree with you) but in the case of "Settings" this is one of the very few exceptions. I think using System instead of Settings may confuse users. Unless any other user or Team Member objects, I would like to keep using Settings, especially as it is used throughout the wiki and here on the forum. System is too vague and for most people it does not imply settings.

A quick look at the Basic Controls page... https://kodi.wiki/view/Basic_controls
  • Any reason for removing "Filter" as Filter and Search are not the same.
  • Home Screen you changed to The home screen. I see you have done this for many sections. Do we really need an article at the start? Changing the section heading also breaks any links to that section if another page was using it.
  • Also section headings are case sensitive. Home Screen and Home screen are not the same and will break a link

I am here most days so feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks again!!

Hey Karellen,
Sorry about the broken links! I hadn't used a MediaWiki before and assumed links would be changed automatically if the target changed (which doesn't really make sense, in hindsight).

For the Basic controls page, I thought it might be useful to separate 'search' and 'filter' because they're different functions, but each could mention and link to the other? I'm happy to defer to you there if you think it's better as-is.
The headings are fine without the article - I think the convention/best practice is with the article, but it's pretty trivial and not worth breaking links. Do you have a list of style conventions anywhere on the wiki or forum? E.g., where to use bold/red text, allcaps, etc - it would be handy to ensure formatting in articles is consistent.

I saw the wiki cleanup thread and I'm happy to help with redirects, but I have a pretty basic/vanilla Kodi installation – I mostly want to help with cleaning up and pruning pages (especially guides and HOW-TOs), so any pages you've identified as needing to be re-written as instructions would be my cup of tea. Is there any way to see which pages were last updated pre-v18? 'Category:Krypton' seems to work for v17 updates, and I can see a few HOW-TOs there that I will look at next, but would need to go through every release (and some pages don't seem to have the update version.)

Cheers!

No problems at all Smile

No, not really. There is a page for Style Guidelines but it was never completed and the info on it currently is of no help anyway... https://kodi.wiki/view/Help:Style_guidelines

That part of the cleanup I have completed. 3,100+ redirects reduced down to approx 400.

That is great. I have already done a bit of work on the How-To's as they were just a mix of pages that were unnecessary, but plenty more to go. Pruning out the obsolete How-To's is required next.

Correct, not all the pages have an Updated tag, either because they are generic and don't change with version changes, are old and created before the time the tags were added or the editor forgot to add it.
Here is a list of all pages that have been updated for v18... https://kodi.wiki/view/Category:Leia
You can see a list of all categories (which I am slowly pruning) from the left menu of the wiki under "Tools" > "Special pages" and then select "Categories"

Also from Special pages you can select a list of "All pages" which will give you this... https://kodi.wiki/view/Special:AllPages (items in italics are redirects)
At the top of the page, you can select which "Namespace" to list, so you can then list How-To's, Archive, Templates etc depending on your need. (Main) is where most pages are hosted... https://kodi.wiki/view/Special:AllPages

There is also the Pages Updated by version Category, but it would be incomplete due to many pages not having the Version tag applied... https://kodi.wiki/view/Category:Pages_up...by_version

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have further questions.
