I re-installed xbmc live, and now the problem is a lot less frequent. Now instead of music getting garbled after 4-5 songs, it's happening after a couple of hours or so. Strange!

Zotac IONITX-A-U Atom N330 motherboard.

I've been experiencing this for several months now. It only happens to me after I've been playing continuously for many hours and can be cleared by either pausing or just skipping to the next song.

I hadn't bothered looking into it since it happens to me so infrequently and its easy to fix, but I sure wouldn't mind a real solution.

ps - I'm not using the Live distribution. I'm running the latest XBMC on Karmic Koala.

As previously mentioned in this thread, I changed my output device to iec958 from default. In the several weeks since that change I have not experienced the garbled audio issue. This is using a Zotac IONITX-D-E and Live 9.11 btw.

Geekzilla: Do you know exactly what that does? I confess that Linux audio (ALSA, etc...) confuses the cr*p out of me.

Could changing that setting have you bypassing an ALSA mixer that is getting hosed up?

I am a linux rookie, but I believe it just specifies using the spdif, rather than the default which is the spdif anyways (for me at least). I didn't discover this, andyjayh did, so maybe he can comment further.

I'm having this problem occasionally too. I don't use any local sources, only files served from NAS. Out of curiosity, how many of you who are experiencing this problem are using a DNS-323 NAS? If you are using a DNS-323, are you running Transmission on it?

I have had the same behavior with my Moblin 2.1. This is my system:

- Zotac mini itx with ION + Atom 230
- analog stereo audio output
- kernel 2.6.32-5.3
- xbmc compiled from svn updated two weeks ago.

The issue appear when I play mp3 files from local HDD after one-two minutes of music. With video player I have no problem.

Possible FIX: yesterday I've modified my .asoundrc as stated in this file: http://www.xbmcfreak.nl/wp-content/uploa...oundrc.txt then playing four song without problem!

Someone else have tried this?

I'll be damned: this seems to work. No audio fuckups for over two days now.

Trying the /etc/asound.conf now..

Interesting sidenote: I haven't had this problem while running sound through pulseaudio. Only after uninstalling pulseaudio this problem appeared.
