DVD Playback choppy after ~40 minutes
#1
Hi all, I am having a problem playing DVDs in XBMC on Ubuntu 10.10 (64-bit).

For the first ~40 minutes of playback everything is fine, however suddenly the video starts playing back at 15fps (instead of 25fps) and the picture is quite choppy/stuttery. Audio plays back just fine. Once this has happened the only way to fix the problem is to reboot.

This is an ION system with 4GB of RAM running off a 128GB SSD (and a 2TB drive for data). VDPAU seems to be working fine, 1080p content plays flawlessly AFAICT.

I have a debug log here: http://pastebin.com/Hzt32qc7

The choppiness starts at about 18:55, but nothing in the logfile seems to indicate a problem.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Hm, now it is happening on MythTV content as well. Same symptoms; works fine for a while and then starts getting choppy. h264 content is fine, maybe there is a problem with MPEG?

In case anyone is curious, or suffers from a similar problem, I eventually "solved" this by switching to the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 10.10. I have no idea why the 64-bit version didn't work, but there you go.

17:57:19 T:140087575926528 M:2954682368   DEBUG: CDVDPlayerAudio::Process - Decode Error

This pattern goes again trough out the log file...
And it goes on. So i would not say that debug log doesn't show anything but
im no expert.

Do you use upscaling on sd content ? Any special settings in video settings or have you tweaked advancedconfig.xml ?

I would just try to download a live cd and boot from that. This way it's fast to rule out any settings/config problems on your side. If it works with live cd something is wrong on your setup.

I play dvd's jsut fine Wink
