Linux AudioEngine testers - Linux only
In xbmc I believe we have:

sync display to playback - Disabled
Adjust display refresh rate to match video - Disabled
ensure you have enabled trueHd and MasterAudio in the audio options

If I was you I would just try a openelec frodo install, even install it to a USB, then it will confirm its a settings issue not your hardware.
