XBMC should download (and cache) the artwork on the machine that is performing the scrape, but any other non-scraper clients will not have any artwork cached until you start browsing the GUI (or pre-load using this script).
You can see what is in your cache with "./texturecache.py x", and see what isn't in your cache with "./texturecache.py nc movies".
