With "Sync Playback to display" it looks like a lot less frames are being dropped.

This is what FernetMenta and I use - so it's no wonder that it works - never the less I forwarded your issue and starting next week I will have time again to look into kodi stuff.
It does not work on both of my systems. I have passthrough disabled and sync playback to display enabled.
