This is the main selling point of the new Shield for me.
I don't see how it could really. Google Assistant is mostly about controlling general android. I'm sure it works with a bunch of other apps . But it's brand brand new.
If you're wanting to experiment with voice commands and kodi you could always look into Yatse. It's a kodi remote control app on Android. You can give it voice commands play play, Ffw, rw, stop, 'play 'die hard'' etc , also works quite well for your music library,
