I am pretty much going straight from the small compact case build he created (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=109453). I must have missed where this build stated which "group" it was classified as?

I love the case just wanted to know if the rest of the components are up to the speed for "group 5"? Plan is for "group 5" windows 7 machine (because of netflix) connected to sony bravia with HDMI connections. I noticed that the motherboard has a VGA connector and I have zero experience with any adapter cables. I am assuming they will work just fine, but have never played with them.

So, I'm not gunna say that it isn't possible to go from VGA to HDMI because you can... but, you may not want to do that...

Windows 7 with streaming Netflix and XBMC will definitely need more than 1G RAM. I would say 2 is a bare minimum.

If it were me, I would lean towards

Or something similar.

That way you have a quicker system with built in HDMI and with 2G RAM You should no problems with what you are after.

But don't change anything til Eskro weighs in.

The GPU may not be up to snuff if you plan to use DTS-MA/TrueHD audio in the future.

@DaMiaN, I couldn't agree more, it will be underpowered for DTS-MA/TrueHD. But, it sounds like he is going direct to a TV for now, and with that Lian LI case he will have plenty of room to add a good grapics card down the road.

Since when did you folks stop caring about dual channel?

It should of course be two sticks of RAM and with the low RAM prices I fully agree to throw in at least 2Gb (i.e. 2x1Gb).

And Sky, unless you have other considerations playing in, I would definitely recommend getting a solution with built in HDMI. Only reason not to would be if you really want a separate and exchangable card.

Yeah I will wait about a week to let all these VERY HELPFUL replies filter in so I can weigh my options (thanks everyone). And of course Eskro's a.k.a. "YODA's" final stamp of approval!

Yes I don't require any audio "things" so far. Of course wait a few months and then I will learn what all than means and then might want that too?

And Yes, it is planned to be just a simple movie and TV box not connected to internet (might be but not required). And if there were to be anything else it would be playing games (i.e. Tetris, Elevator action, Pitfall, etc..) when I heard about old emulator programs. I haven't begun to even research that part yet, baby steps. Big box first...then tweak the hell out of it!

I saw that, but the cases are identical in style and form factor from very good companies (Silverstone and Lian Li). SG05B is the original breed in this style and form factor. Both cases have the same performance, and the overall rating on these cases by bit-tech are identical!

If he preferred the $110 Lian Li case without a PSU over the $105 Silverstone case with a good 300W PSU in it, that is his choice to make.

I just want to offer another choice for better deal!

Ok, I am not COMPLETELY opposed to an alternate case. The fact that the second case (silverstone was it?) is near same price WITH power supply vs original Lan Li without power supply has my attention. I am still leaning towards the Lan Li but now you got me thinking

Assuming I used silverstone case would everything still fit? Based on the 6HDD build that eskro originally planed out. Now you guys have me thinking of a remote too. I have read a lot about harmony remotes. Some perfect uses, some that needed tweaking, but given my selections for potential build what harmony remote would work well or would all of them work fine?

If you want 6 hdd's in it, you need to go with Lian Li then. Silverstone is smaller case, and it doesn't support 6 hdd's.

I use the harmony one, and absolutely love it. It did take a little bit of tweaking initially (not rocket surgery kind of stuff), but I am using XBMCLive. Win7 may require less, if any. The capcity to setup macro functions that turn on and tune in all your equipment with the push of a single button... well that is the epitome of technology making things easy.
