Linux and Blu-Ray with Menu
#1
So, I know this has been spoken of before.
But I didnt have time to read through like 50 pages on it, sorry for that Sad

But what I want to know is, will or does XBMC support Blu-Ray playback in Linux?
Eg, OpenELEC.

I know it has Libaacs but that means nothing to me (Im a Linux n00b).

What I really want to know is, does it have full Blu-Ray playback support, like the Java menus and stuff?

If it doesnt, will it ever? or is this not possible due to licences and what not?
Are team XBMC or OE working on getting it to play?

Thanks all.

DRM free Bluray works ootb, as of yesterday with limited menu support(in master, not Eden). For encrypted Blurays, makemkv is a possibility, albeit limited too.

Hi I just came across this Thread, trying to install my first Linux HTPC (yet everything works, except for my Antec Fusion IR-Receiver & LCD) so I'm still a Noob in Linux, but ootb usually means "out of the box" as wsnipex mentioned it. so it should work without you installing anything. As for me, I installed makemkv and start it through an addon.

dunno about openelec, but on ubuntu you just need libbluray installed.

Under XBMCbuntu you need the libbluray and libaacs libraries. makemkv is not needed with this method.

How do I install libbluray?
I believe OpenELEC already has the libraries built in.

Also this still wont give Java menus hey?

Hi,
I don' t use OpenElec but XBMCbuntu with XBMC Frodo Beta 3.
The embedded XBMC Player does not support the Java menus at this time (work in progress). It will only allow you to play the movie.
There seems to be a libbluray package in OpenElec but I do not know if it is installed by default or if you have to activate it.
